Yellow Jacket Women Place Fifth at DIII NCAA Great Lakes Regional; Hlavin and Chinn Earn All-Region

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's cross country team placed fifth of 34 teams at the 2009 NCAA Great Lakes Regional this afternoon (Saturday, November 14) in Terre Haute, Indiana. Two Yellow Jackets earned all-region honors and senior D'Arcy Hlavin (Berea) remained eligible for an at-large bid to next Saturday's NCAA National Championship meet hosted by BW in Highland Hills. As a team, the Yellow Jackets also have an outside shot of obtaining an at-large bid to Nationals.

Hlavin placed 16th and junior Kim Chinn (Zanesville/ West Muskingum) finished 20th to earn All-Great Lakes Region honors, which goes to the top 35 finishers in the race. Overall, 231 runners competed in the women's event.

If the NCAA Division III championships committee selects third-place Case Western Reserve and fourth-place DePauw (Ind.) as team at-large representatives, Hlavin would be added to Nationals as an individual by virtue of finishing in the top seven amongst individuals not on qualifying teams.

Hlavin finished the six-kilometer race in 22:55.44 and Chinn finished in 23:01.57. Also scoring for BW was junior Karin Coyne (Columbia Station/ Columbia) in 36th place at 23:39.07. Freshman Sarah Rospert (Milan/ Edison) was 41st in 23:43.21 and junior Krysten Kovach (North Royalton/ Parma Padua Franciscan) was 49th in 24:00.78.

Junior Katie White (Berea) was sixth for the Jackets in 54th place (24:08.02) and sophomore Julie Kotesovec (Litchfield Twp./ Medina Buckeye) was seventh for the Jackets in 119th place (25:23.66).
