Women's Swimming and Diving Drops OAC Dual to Crosstown Rival John Carroll

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University Women's swimming and diving team closed the home portion of its schedule as it dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference dual meet to defending OAC champion and crosstown rival  John Carroll University by a final score of 173-66 in the BW Natatorium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

BW (0-3, 0-3 OAC) was led by junior All-OAC freestyler Bella Ratino (Mentor /Hawken) as she won both the 500-yard freestyle and 1000-yard freestyle in times of 5:21.80 and 11:25.93.

Earning up a victory was junior All-OAC reestyler Kayla McClintock (Venetia, Pa. /Peters Township) as she captured the 400-yard Medley in a time of 5:09.13.  McClintock also finished third in 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:41.21.

Also brining home a runner-up finish was freshman stroker Tia Reed (Bluffton, S.C.) as she took second in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:12.02.

In addition, sophomore All-OAC freestyler Julia Newbould (Strongsville) finished third in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 26.47 seconds and was fourth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 59.85. Freshman freestyler Lauren Slife (Westfield Center /Cloverleaf) took third in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:06.66. Sophomore freestyler Aubrey Syron (Dayton /Archbishop Alter) placed fourth both in the 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard freestyle in times of 1:09.95 and 2:16.61.  Sophomore diver LynnDee Popovich (Middleburgh Heights/Reichelshelm Academy) was fourth in both the 1-meter five-dive and six-dive events with 82.75 and 127.95 total points.

In relay action, the 400-yard medley unit of Ratino, Reed, Syron and Newbould were the runner-ups in a time of 4:19.18.  The 200-yard freestyle team of sophomore Natalie Kehoe (Parma /Padua Franciscan), junior Emily Newcamp (Pittsburgh, Pa. /North Hills), McClintock and Slife finished second in a time of 1:52.08.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, February 27 when they travel to Wilmington for an OAC meet against Wilmington University inside the Wilmington Natatorium at 11 a.m.
