Men’s Lacrosse Claims Seniors’ Day Victory over Muskingum

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team got back on track with a Senior's Day victory over Muskingum University by a final score of 18-6 in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup inside George Finnie Stadium on the Tressel Field.

Freshman attacker Zakary Kroeger (Cincinnati/Archbishop Moeller) led BW (8-1, 6-0 OAC) with a career-best tying four goals and he added an assist for a career-best tying five points. Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC midfielder Nick Nanosky (Medina) scored two goals and added three assists for a career-best five points. Jake Nanosky (Medina) also scored two goals and assisted on four goals for six points.

Junior midfielder Mason Kesler and sophomore midfielder Maxwell Pezzott led Muskingum (2-7, 2-4 OAC) with two goals each.

Before the opening faceoff, BW recognized the team's 11 seniors, Academic All-OAC defender David Arlington (Lockport, N.Y.), faceoff specialist Sandy Bishop (Avon Lake), two-time Academic All-OAC midfielder Jimmy Brown (Canfield/Cardinal Mooney), two-time Academic All-OAC goalkeeper Trent Davis (Ottawa Hills), faceoff specialist Keller Fisher (Rocky River), two-time All-OAC midfielder Carson Howatt (Dexter, Mich.), midfielder Ethan Miller (Delaware/Hayes),  defender Bryce Moran (Medina), Nick Nanosky, two-time All-OAC and Academic All-OAC defender Matthew Rodenhouse (Pittsford, N.Y./Mendon),  and midfielder Gage Schneider (Hamburg, N.Y.).

As the game got underway, the Yellow Jackets proved to be swarming, beginning the game on a 4-0 run that was capped off by Kroeger with 5:42 remaining in the quarter. The Fighting Muskies' attack was able to trim the BW lead in half with a 2-0 run when Kesler hit the back of the cage. The final three minutes of the quarter was all Yellow Jackets' as they closed the quarter going on a 5-0 run when sophomore midfielder Olin Ferguson (Tulsa, Okla./Booker T. Washington) rifled one past the keeper with 1:24 to put BW up 9-2.

The Yellow Jackets proved to be too much for Muskingum holding them scoreless for the entire second quarter. The BW attack added three goals which came by the way of Kroeger, who scored the first two goals. Junior midfielder John Schulte (Grosse Pointe, Mich./South) hit the back of the net with 1:22 remaining to the Yellow Jackets a 12-2 halftime lead. 

BW started the second half scoring as Nick Nanosky rifled one into the back of the cage with 13:12 remaining in the period. The Fighting Muskies lone goal of the quarter when Pezzott got one past the keeper with 8:53 to end the Yellow Jackets run of nine unanswered goals. BW ended the scoring with a 2-0 run which was capped off freshman midfielder Trevor Stevens (Buffalo, N.Y./Lancaster), to give the Yellow Jackets a 15-3 lead.

The final quarter started off with a Muskingum goal coming by the way of junior attacker Hazen Powell with 13:15 remaining in the game. BW responded with another 2-0 which was finished off by Schneider. The Fighting Muskies added a 2-0 run of their own. The run was capped off by freshman midfielder/attacker Spencer Zecchini. The final goal of the game came from the Yellow Jackets when sophomore attacker Kaleb Delaney (Buffalo, N.Y./Akron) hit the back of the cage off a feed from Stevens.

In the cage, Davis recorded three saves on the six shots he faced in 30 minutes of action. Sophomore goalkeeper Joe Storner (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) faced one shot 15 minutes of action. Freshman goalkeeper Samuel LoPiccolo (Mason/William Mason) recorded one save on the three shots he faced in seven minutes of action. Junior goalkeeper Will Scurci (Mars, Pa.) faced one shot in eight minutes of action.

BW is back in action of Saturday, April 17 when they travel to Tiffin to play Heidelbergg Univeristy in an OAC matchup beginning at 1 pm inside Hoernmann Stadium.
