PORT CHARLOTTE, FLA. -- The Baldwin-Wallace College baseball team won its first game under the direction of first-year Head Coach Brian Harrison today (Tuesday, March 8, 2011) when it defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Wilmington College, 14-6, on the third day of the team's spring break trip at the Snowbird Baseball Classic at North Charlotte Regional Park.  B-W plays five more games during the next four days.

With the win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 1-2 overall prior to play OAC rival Muskingum University later today at 4:00 p.m. With its loss, Wilmington dropped to 1-4 overall.

The Yellow Jackets gained a 3-0 advantage with a run in the first inning and two more in the top of the third before Wilmington scored its first run in the bottom of the third to close to 3-1. B-W blew the game open with four runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings and added three more in the sixth for a 14-1 lead.  The Quakers scored twice in the seventh and three more times in the ninth to make the outcome closer.

For the game, B-W outhit Wilmington, 20-14.

At the plate, the Yellow Jackets were led by senior catcher John Ulanski (Bay Village/ Bay), sophomore second baseman Keith Blazek (Erie, Pa./ Cathedral Prep) and sophomore centerfielder Nolan Neuschaefer (Elyria/ Senior) as each player had three base hits. Ulanski had a triple, scored three times and drove in a career-high five runs.  Neuschaefer scored four times and had a double. Blazek had a pair of triples, scored three times and drove in one run.

In addition, freshman rightfielder Kory Gillissie (Parma/ Cleveland St. Ignatius) was two-for-two, freshman LF Ryan Weed (Chardon) was two-for-three with an RBI and junior shortstop Anthony Longhitano (Cuyahoga Falls) had two hits in six at-bats with a run scored.

On the mound,  senior righthander Josh Scott (Strongsville) earned the win as he tossed six strong innings, allowed seven hits and one earned run, struck out six and walked just one. Freshman righty Adam Feely (Springboro) followed Scott to the mound, pitched three innings in relief and earned his first collegiate save.

Following tonight's game versus Muskingum, the Yellow Jackets are off tomorrow and then play The College of Mount St. Joseph on Thursday, March 10 at 10:00 a.m.
