Baseball Drops 10-9 Decision to Medaille (N.Y.) in Port Charlotte

PORT CHARLOTTE, FLA. -- The Baldwin-Wallace College baseball team lost 10-9 to Medaille (N.Y.) College today (Monday, March 7) on the second day of the team's spring break trip at the Snowbird Baseball Classic at South County Regional Park.

The Yellow Jackets fall to 0-2 overall heading into their games tomorrow against Wilmington College at 1:00 p.m. and Muskingum University at 4:00 p.m. Medaille improved to 4-1 with the win.

B-W built a 7-0 lead with two runs in the first inning and five in the second. Both teams added a run in the third before Medaille tied the game 8-8 with a seven-run fourth. Medaille added two runs in the fifth. B-W added one in the eighth for the final margin.

At the plate, the Yellow Jackets were led by senior catcher John Ulanski (Bay Village/ Bay) who was three-for-five with a run batted in and three runs scored. Junior outfielder Anthony D'Attoma (Copley) was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Freshman outfielder Ryan Weed (Chardon) went 2-for-4 with two doubles.

On the mound,  sophomore Pat Havens (Twinsburg) started and pitched the first three innings surrendering seven runs (six earned) on seven hits. He was followed by sophomore Brett Gaj (Stow/ Kent Roosevelt) who gave up three runs (all earned) in one inning and took the loss. Freshman Cory Waite (Willoughby/ South) pitched two scoreless innings with a strikeout and sophomore Will Pantages (Akron/ Firestone) struck out three in three innings of scoreless relief.

Following tomorrow's games versus Wilmington and Muskingum, the Jackets play Mount St. Joseph College on Thursday, March 10 in a single, nine-inning game at 10:00 a.m.
