Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Bluffton at Snowbird Classic; Redovian Tosses Complete Game

PORT CHARLOTTE, FLA. -- Sophomore right-handed pitcher David Redovian (Fairlawn/ Copley) tossed a complete game shutout to earn his first collegiate win as the Baldwin-Wallace College baseball team split a doubleheader with Bluffton University today (Friday, March 11, 2011) at the Snowbird Baseball Classic at North Charlotte Regional Park.  The Yellow Jackets won game one, 5-0, but fell in the second game, 11-1.

With the split, B-W moves to 3-3 overall. Bluffton is now 4-5 overall.


In game one, B-W gained a 3-0 advantage with two runs in the first inning and one more in the top of the second inning. The Yellow Jackets added one in the fourth and one in the sixth for the final margin.


On the mound, Redovian tossed a complete game gem as he pitched seven innings, allowed only three hits, struck out five and walked two batters.


At the plate, sophomore center fielder Nolan Neuschaefer (Elyria/ Senior) was two-for-three with a run batted in and two runs scored. Senior catcher John Ulanski (Bay Village/ Bay) went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Sophomore second baseman Keith Blazek (Erie, Pa./ Cathedral Prep) was 2-for-3 with a run scored and junior shortstop Anthony Longhitano (Cuyahoga Falls) was 1-for-3 and scored a run.


In game two, Bluffton scored once in the first and B-W added one in the bottom of the first to tie the game 1-1. Bluffton then blew the game open with four in the third to make the score 5-1. The Beavers added three runs in the sixth and seventh innings for the final tally. The B-W offense could muster only four hits to Bluffton's 14.


At the plate, junior catcher Jordan Barnett (Willard) was 2-for-3 with a stolen base. Blazek was 1-for-2, Longhitano had the only RBI and junior outfielder Anthony D'Attoma (Copley) went 1-for-3.


On the mound, freshman Jon Capadona (North Royalton) started and pitched the first two and two-thirds innings in the loss.


The Yellow Jackets wrap up their spring break trip tomorrow, March 12 when they play a twinbill versus Ohio Wesleyan University at 9:30 a.m. The first home game is on March 26 when B-W hosts NAIA foe Malone University at Heritage Field in a single nine-inning game at 1:00 p.m.
