Fourteen Women's Track and Field Student-Athletes Selected to Academic All-OAC Team

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Fourteen Baldwin Wallace University women's track and field student-athletes have been selected to the Academic All-OAC team.

In order to be selected to the Academic All-OAC team, a student-athlete must be a sophomore or higher in class standing, maintain varsity status and have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA.

Junior two-time All-American distance runner Kelly Brennan (Akron/Walsh Jesuit), junior All-OAC thrower Brooke Buckhannon (Collins/Western Reserve), junior distance runner Jordan Dascani (Toledo/Springfield), senior jumper Jessica Edwards (North Versailles, Pa./East Allegheny), junior All-OAC distance runner Katie Fowler (Mount Vernon), sophomore All-OAC distance runner Madison Kile (North Canton/Hoover), sophomore jumper Abby Lewicki (Medina/Highland), junior distance runner Claire Makowski (Bethel Park, Pa.), junior All-OAC distance runner Bella Pendola (Warsaw/River View), sophomore All-OAC distance runner Rebecca Penrose (Springfield/Shawnee), junior All-OAC thrower Jillian Roberts (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Hts.), sophomore distance runner Alexa Smith (North Canton/Jackson), sophomore distance runner Megan Vaughn (Amherst/Firelands) and senior jumper Abby Weagraff (Cochranton, Pa./Meadville) are 14 of the 62 Yellow Jacket student-athletes to be recognized this spring.

Brennan, who earns her third career Academic All-OAC honor, is an accounting and finance double major who carries a 3.971 GPA. She is a Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar, a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta and Chi Alpha Sigma honor societies, a two-time United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic selection and a College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)/Google Cloud Academic All-American. This season to date, Brennan broke three separate school records a total of five times and earned four All-Ohio honors, five All-OAC accolades, four USTFCCCA All-Great Lakes Region honors and one All-American finish.

Buckhannon, who garners her second straight Academic All-OAC accolade, is a public relations major who carries a 3.872 GPA. She is a Dean's List student, a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta honor society and a USTFCCCA All-Academic selection. This season to date, Buckhannon earned two All-Ohio honors, four All-OAC honors, one OAC Most Outstanding Field Athlete award and two USTFCCCA All-Great Lakes Region accolades.

Dascani, who also is named to her second consecutive Academic All-OAC team, is a pre-physical therapy major who carries a 3.713 GPA. A Dean's List student and Jacket Scholar, Dascani posted season-best and career-best times in the 3,000-meter run, 5,000-meter run, 800-meter run, 1,500-meter run and 3,000-meter steeplechase this season.

Edwards, who earns her third career Academic All-OAC honor, is an exercise science and pre-physical therapy double major who carries a 3.822 GPA. Off the track, she is a Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar, a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta and Chi Alpha Sigma honor societies, a member of the BW Honors Program, a member of the Exercise Science Club, vice president of the Pre-Physical Therapy Club and vice president of academic excellence of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. This season, Edwards posted a season-best and career-best mark of 15 feet in the indoor long jump.

Fowler, who garners her second straight Academic All-OAC accolade, is a Spanish and communications disorders double major who carries a 3.906 GPA. Academically, she is a Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar, president of the Spanish Club and a member of the BW Honors Program. This season, Fowler earned a pair of All-OAC honors in the indoor distance medley relay and the outdoor 4x800-meter relay.

Kile, who is named to her first Academic All-OAC team, is an engineering major who carries a 3.958 GPA. She is a Dean's List student. This season, Kile earned All-OAC honors as a member of both the indoor distance medley relay team and the outdoor 4x800 relay team. 

Lewicki, who also earns her first career Academic All-OAC honor, is an accounting major who carries a 3.895 GPA. A Dean's List student, Lewicki cleared a career-high 10'2.5" in the outdoor pole vault this season.

Makowski, who garners her first Academic All-OAC accolade, is a music education major who carries a 3.870 GPA. Academically, she is a Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar, a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and the 2018 OAC October Scholar Athlete of the Month. This season, Makowski ran career-best times in the indoor 3,000-meter run, indoor 5,000-meter run, outdoor 800-meter run and outdoor 5,000-meter run.   

Pendola, who is named to her second straight Academic All-OAC team, is a neuroscience and psychology double major who carries a 3.695 GPA. She is a Dean's List student and a Jacket Scholar. This season, Pendola received All-OAC honors in both the indoor distance medley relay and the outdoor 4x800 relay and was also recognized with USTFCCCA All-Great Lakes Region honors in the distance medley relay.

Penrose, who earns her first career Academic All-OAC honor, is a broadcasting and mass communication major who carries a 3.566 GPA. A Dean's List student, Penrose earned All-OAC honors as a member of the third-place indoor distance medley relay team. She also posted career-best times in the indoor 200-meter dash and indoor 1,000-meter run.

Roberts, who garners her second straight Academic All-OAC accolade, is an exercise science major who carries a 3.576 GPA. Academically, she is a Dean's List student. This season, Roberts had career-best marks of 40'1.5" in the indoor shot put, 40'11" in the outdoor shot put and 105'0" in the discus throw. 

Smith, who is named to her first Academic All-OAC team, is a music education major who carries a 3.51 GPA. In her first collegiate season, Smith posted career-best times in the indoor 3,000-meter run, indoor 5,000-meter run, outdoor 800-meter run, outdoor 1,500-meter run, outdoor 5,000-meter run, outdoor 400-meter hurdles and outdoor 3,000-meter steeplechase. 

Vaughn, who earns her first career Academic All-OAC honor, is a marketing and management double major who carries a 3.761 GPA. She is a Dean's List student, This season, Vaughn had career bests in the indoor 1-mile run, indoor 3,000-meter run, indoor 5,000-meter run, outdoor 800-meter run, outdoor 1,500-meter run, outdoor 5,000-meter run and outdoor 10,000-meter run.

Weagraff, who garners her third consecutive Academic All-OAC accolade, is a biology major who carries a 3.83 GPA. Off the track, she is a Dean's List student; a Jacket Scholar; a member of both the Alpha Lambda Delta and Chi Alpha Sigma honor societies; a member of the BW Honors Program and the Pre-Medical Society; and vice president of member experience for the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. This season, Weagraff cleared season-best heights of 10'0" in the indoor pole vault and 9'9" in the outdoor pole vault.
