NORTH RIDGEVILLE, OHIO – The defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team defeated visiting NCAA Division II Lake Erie College, 7-2, today (Saturday, February 23, 2013) at the North Ridge Racquet Club. The victory improved the Yellow Jacket record to 6-0 overall and gave BW a sweep for the day. BW beat Franciscan University, 9-0, earlier today.
With its loss, Lake Erie is 0-5 overall.
BW was led by sophomore No. 2 player Kyle Patterson (Wooster/ Triway) who defeated Juan Roggia, 5-7, 6-3 and 10-7. In addition freshman No. 3 player Peter Harris (Akron/ Richfield Revere) beat Luke Hobbs, 6-2 and 6-3; senior No. 4 player Alexander Kerney (North Olmsted) shutout Cory Meek, 6-0, 6-0; freshman No. 5 player Doug Ganim (Olentangy/ Orange) edged Kyle O'Dell, 6-2 and 6-4; junior No. 6 player Brad Minrovic (Akron/ Ellet) blanked Dimitrije Spasic, 6-0 and 6-0.
In doubles action, the No. 2 tandem of Patterson and Minrovic beat Meek and O'dell, 8-3, and the No. 3 team of seniors Horvath and Kearney defeated Hobbs and Spasic, 8-0.
The Yellow Jacket men are back in action on Saturday, March 2 when they travel to Defiance, Ohio to play St. Francis (Ind.) University at Defiance College at 10:00 a.m. and then face host Defiance at 2:00 p.m. The Yellow Jackets then travel to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina from March 10-15 on its annual Spring Break Trip where they will play six matches.
A year ago, the BW men posted a set a school-record with 29 victories, posted a 29-1 record, won both the OAC regular season title (9-0 record) and the OAC Tournament title and advanced to its first-ever NCAA Division III National Tournament where they won its first-ever NCAA tourney match.
