Baldwin-Wallace Football Team Lost to No.1-Ranked Mt. Union, 48-3, in Berea

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College Yellow Jackets lost to Ohio Athletic Conference rival and No.1-ranked Mount Union College, 48-3, today (Saturday, October 4, 2008) on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium on Homecoming.

 
With its loss, B-W is now 2-2 overall and 2-1 in the OAC and trails the all-time series between the two rivals, 25-21-1. With its win, Mt. Union is now 4-0 overall, 3-0 in the OAC and has won 67 straight road games.
 
Mt. Union led 7-0 after one quarter, 27-3 at halftime and 48-3 after three periods.
 
The Purple Raiders opened the scoring at the 5:09 mark of the first quarter when senior running back Nate Kmic scored on a two-yard run and junior placekicker Jay Williamson kicked the point-after-touchdown and Mt. Union led 7-0. Junior PK Cory Ramos (Macedonia/ Nordonia) pulled BW to within 7-3 at the 14:49 mark of the second quarter when he kicked a 39-yard field goal.
 
Mt. Union increased its lead to 27-3 at halftime with a 20-point second quarter as Kmic scored on a nine-yard run and senior quarterback Greg Micheli threw TD passes of 68 and 27 yards to junior wide receiver Cecil Shorts III and Williams kicked three more PAT's.
 
In the third quarter, Mt. Union scored 21 more points to build its lead to 48-3 and put the game out of reach for B-W.
 
Offensively for B-W, Gardner completed 19-of-28 passes for 134 yards. Senior wide receiver Matt Lepley (Bellevue) caught seven passes for 55 yards. Defensively, sophomore linebacker Ryan Kish (Amherst/ Steele) led the Yellow Jackets with 10 tackles.
 
Offensively for Mt. Union, Micheli completed 13-of-16 passes for 275 yards and three TD. Kmic ran for 27 yards in 218 attempts with four TD and Short caught six passes for 158 yards and three TD. Defensively, the Purple Raiders held B-W to 172 yards of total offense, sacked Gardner six times and forced three Yellow Jacket fumbles and recovered one.
