No. 3 Baseball Sweeps OAC Doubleheader Over Mount Union

BEREA, Ohio – The No. 3 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University baseball team swept the University of Mount Union in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader on Fisher Field

In game one, BW (22-4, 7-1 OAC) scored six runs on 10 runs as it plated one run in the first, two in the third, one in the fourth on the solo shot by senior catcher Mark Mohnickey, Jr. (North Ridgeville/St. Edward), one in the sixth and one in the seventh.  Mount Union (17-8, 4-4 OAC) scored four runs on 11 hits as it pushed one run across the plate in the second, two in the fifth and one in the sixth.

At the Plate

  • Senior third baseman Nick Clark (Willowick/Notre Cathedral Latin) went 2-for-3 with a double and three runs scored
  • Junior right fielder Brandon Gelpi (Monroeville, Pa./Central Catholic) went 2-for-3 with three runs batted-in (RBIs)
  • Senior first baseman Max Anastasio (Chesterbrook, Pa./Conestoga) went 2-for-4 with a double and run scored
  • Sophomore center fielder Dennis Ritlinger-Nirider (Grove City) went 2-for-4 with a RBI

One the Mound

  • Senior right hander Aidan Bennett (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) got the start and the no-decision as he allowed one run on two hits with three strikeouts and three walks in four innings pitched
  • Senior All-OAC righty Garrett Miller (McMurray, Pa.) earned his second win of the season as he allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits with one strikeout and one walk
  • Senior Academic All-OAC right hander Matt Sabin (Mentor) did not allow a run on five hits with one walk in 2.2 inning pitched
  • Freshman righty Jake Heatherington (Bellaire) picked up his league leading sixth save of the season as he did not allow a run or hit on a third of an inning pitched.

In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored 11 runs on 14 runs as they plated one run in the first, one in the second, three in the fourth, two each in the fifth, sixth and eighth.  The Purple Raiders scored four runs on10 hits as they pushed one run across the plate in the second and three in the sixth.

At the Plate

  • Senior left fielder Joey Marousek (North Royalton) went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs
  • Freshman catcher Mason Fixx (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) went 2-for-2 with a double, run scored and two RBIs
  • Gelpi went 2-for-3 with a run scored and walk
  • Clark went 2-for-6 with three RBIs
  • Ritlinger-Nirider went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a walk

On the Mound

  • Junior right hander Vince Dolcemaschio (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward School) got the start and did not allow a run on two hits with a strikeout in one inning pitched
  • Miller allowed one run on two hits with one strikeout in one inning pitched
  • Bennett earned the win as he did not allow a run on two hits with two strikeouts in two innings pitched
  • Sophomore left hander Brit Kostura (Tequesta, Fla./Jupiter Christian School) allowed three runs on two hits with two walks in 1.2 innings pitched
  • Sophomore lefty Carson Collins (South Bend, Ind./Saint Joseph's) earned the save as he did not allow a run on two hits with two strikeouts and three walks

BW is back in action on Saturday, April 13 when it travels to New Concord for an OAC doubleheader against Muskingum University on Mose Morehead Field at 1 p.m.
