No. 2 Baseball Splits Conference Doubleheader with Marietta

MARIETTA, Ohio - The No. 2 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University baseball team took on Marietta College in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader where they lost the first game by a score of 18-0 and won the second by a score of 7-4 at Schaly Field in Pioneer Park. 

The BW (20-4, 5-1 OAC) bats were held quiet in Game 1 of Sunday's Doubleheader thanks to dominant pitching from Marietta (11-12, 3-3 OAC), but the Yellow Jackets were able to turn around and take the second game for a series split after big performances on both sides of the ball.

Game 1 

At the Plate

  • Sophomore center fielder Dennis Ritlinger-Nirider (Grove City) went 2-for-3 to lead the Yellow Jackets offensively with two singles
  • Junior designated hitter Mally Kilbane (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls) had his third straight multi-hit game after going 2-for-4
  • Senior third baseman Nick Clark (Willowick/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) produced the only other hit for the Brown and Gold with a single down the rightfield line

On the Mound

  • Junior right-hander Vince Dolcemaschio (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward School) faced 23 batters through 3.1 innings where he allowed nine runs on nine hits and struck out four
  • Sophomore left-hander Brit Kostura (Tequesta, Fla./Jupiter Christian School) finished the fourth inning in 10 pitches
  • Freshman right-hander Matt Moscarino (Strongsville/Padua Franciscan) tallied a strikeout in his 1.2 innings where he surrendered four runs on one hit
  • Senior right-hander Dan Petrouskie (Seaford, N.Y./IMG Academy) maintains his perfect ERA after not giving up an earned run
  • Senior right-hander Drew Schaly (Ashland) closed out the final innings allowing two runs on four hits

Game 2

Scoring Plays

  • Top 3rd - Kilbane knocked in the first run of the day with a double
  • Top 3rd - Clark got his first RBI of the day to make it a one run game
  • Top 4th - Kilbane hit a two-out two-run single to give BW the lead
  • Top 5th - Ritlinger-Nirider stayed hot with an RBI double to left center
  • Top 5th - Sophomore shortstop Matt Terzola (Uniontown/Archbishop Hoban) hit a sacrifice fly to center
  • Top 8th - Freshman catcher Mason Fixx (Canonsburg, Pa/Canon-McMillan) laid down a suicide squeeze to extend the lead

At the Plate

  • Kilbane was the game-leader in RBI with three and added two hits
  • Senior first baseman Max Anastasio (Chesterbrook, Pa./Conestoga) went a team-best 2-for-4 with two singles
  • Ritlinger-Nirider recorded his second multi-hit game of the day and contributed an RBI
  • Junior second baseman Noah English (Perrysburg) also had two singles finishing 2-for-5 

On the Mound

  • Sophomore right-hander Tyler Walker (Fairlawn/Copley) gave up three runs in the first two innings but still picked up the win after striking out five in his five innings of work
  • Freshman right-hander Jake Heatherington (Bellaire) earned his OAC-leading fifth save after striking out five in the final four innings and allowing only one run on five hits
