BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College women's soccer team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Muskingum College, 2-1, today (Saturday, October 11, 2008) in the back end of a men's and women's soccer doubleheader in New Concord.
The Yellow Jackets improve to 6-5-3 overall and 3-2-0 in the OAC. Muskingum falls to 6-6-2 overall and 0-4-1 in conference play.
B-W gained the lead at the in thr 26th minute mark when sophomore defender Caitlin Sutter (Sylvania/ Southview) scored her first goal of the season. In the 76th minute, junior midfielder Stephanie Geiger (Berea) scored on senior forward Allie Wojtkun's (North Olmsted/ Magnifact) assist. The goal was Geiger's second of the season and the assist was Wojtkun's first.
Muskingum got on the board in ther 88th minute when Jenni Gramstad score unassisted, but it was not enough to force a comeback.
In goal for B-W, sophomore Becky Miner (Berea) played all 90 minutes and faced 12 Muskie shots and made five saves, as she improved to 6-5-3 for the season.
BW won the battle of shots, 14-12, and corner kicks, 7-4.
After 14 matches in 2008, the Yellow Jackets are led in scoring by junior Natalie Fox (Canfield) and Wojtkun who each have seven points on three goals and one assist. Sophomore forward Vickie Dreiling (Boardman/ Youngstown Cardinal Mooney) and freshman forward Brittany Thomas (Westerville/ Central) have six points. Dreiling has three goals and Thomas has two goals and two assists.
B-W returns to action on Tuesday, October 21 when it hosts Ohio Athletic Conference rival Capital University at 7:00 p.m. on the Tressel Field pitch at The George Finnie Stadium.
