12th-Ranked Yellow Jackets Drop OAC Opener, 51-42, to Rival Capital in Bexley.

BEREA, OHIO -- Rachael Quiring (Brunswick/Parma Heights Holy Name) scored 10 points as the 12th-ranked Baldwin-Wallace College women's basketball team lost to Ohio Athletic Conference rival Capital University, 51-42, today (Saturday, December 6, 2008) in the OAC Opener for each team in The Capital Center in Bexley. 

With the loss, B-W is now 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the OAC. Capital is now 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the OAC and with the win snapped a three game losing streak to the Yellow Jackets dating back to last season.

In addition to Quiring's 10 for B-W, senior guard Jessica Butzer (Orrville) had eight points and junior forward Ariel Brough (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) set a career high with nine blocks. Junior Kristen Richardson led Capital with a game high 17 points.

For the game, B-W made 32.7 percent of its field goal attempts (16-of-49), including 16.7% of its three-pointers (2-of-12), and 66.7% of its foul shots (8-of-12).

In the first half, B-W trailed until the 10:24 mark when senior All-OAC guard Amanda Mondrach (Parma/Parma Heights Holy Name) drove the lane and put in a lay-up to give the Jackets an 11-10 lead. The contest went back and forth until, with 3:35 left in the half, sophomore guard Courtney Ritzler (Fostoria/Hopewell-Loudon) hit a three pointer to tie the score at 18 all. A late push by the Crusaders gave the home team the lead at halftime 22-21. B-W was led in first half scoring by Ritzler and senior point guard Rachael Quiring (Brunswick/Parma Heights Holy Name) with five points each. The Crusaders were led in scoring by senior forward Danielle Sanna who tallied six first half points.
 
In the second half, B-W fought back into the lead with a Butzer jumper at 12:57 to make the score 33-32. From there Capital went on a 6-0 run and never looked back as the Yellow Jackets trailed from there on.

The Yellow Jackets next play on Saturday, December 13 when they travel to Ada, Ohio to play Ohio Northern University in the ONU Sports Center at 3:00 p.m. Fans are reminded that they can listen to all Yellow Jacket basketball games on campus radio station WBW, 88.3 FM, and via the WBW Internet web site at www.wBW.com.

In addition this winter, three Yellow Jacket men's and three women's games will be televised on SportsTime Ohio on a delay basis. The men will play on STO this Saturday, Dec. 6 versus Capital University. Air times are at 8:00 p.m. on Dec. 6 and at noon on both Dec. 7 and Dec. 8. The other men's TV games are on January 10, 2009 versus Muskingum College and February 18 at cross-town rival John Carroll University. The three women's games to be televised are Jan. 14 at JCU, on Jan. 17 versus Marietta College and February 14 versus Muskingum.
