B-W Softball Team Splits Doubleheader versus Otterbein in Westerville

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College softball team split a pair of games against Ohio Athletic Conference rival Otterbein College today (Friday, April 17, 2009) at Otterbein College in Westerville.  The Yellow Jackets won the opener, 7-2, and before falling in the nightcap, 6-2.

The Yellow Jackets are now 21-13 overall and 7-5 in the OAC, while the Cardinals are 15-15 overall and 4-8 in the OAC.

In the first game, B-W scored twice in the top of the second and third and did not score again until the top of the sixth inning. Otterbein scored their two runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth.

Sophomore shortstop Katrina Resek (Strongsville) led the Yellow Jacket offense with a homerun, a single, two runs batted-in and one run scored.  Senior All-OAC first baseman Caitlin Myor (Sheffield Lake/Elyria Senior) and sophomore third baseman Rebecca Miner (Berea) also recorded two base hits in the first game. On the mound, freshman Sarah Baker (Mentor/ Lake Catholic) pitched a complete game. She allowed five hits and two runs (both earned), struck out two and walked two to improve to 11-6 overall.

In the second game, B-W took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first and did not score their second run until the top of the seventh.  Otterbein scored one in the first, three in the third and two in the fourth for a total of six runs.

Offensively, Myor led the Yellow Jackets with two base hits and sophomore All-Central Region catcher Tanya Davis (Hinckley/ Medina Highland) recorded a double, the team's only hit for extra bases in the second game, and scored twice. Junior leftfielder Chelsea Saunders (Medina/Highland) and Resek each had one base hit.   On the mound, sophomore Mackenzie Rohrbacher (Sandusky/ Senior) pitched the first four innings, giving up seven hits and six runs (all earned). She was followed to the mound by sophomore Alyssa Brosious (Westfield, N.Y./Westfield Academy) who pitched the last two innings and recorded two strikeouts while not surrendering any runs.

B-W will return to action on Saturday, April 18 when they host Muskingum College in an OAC twinbill at 1:00 p.m. on Senior Day.  Prior to the game, the College will acknowledge Caitlin Myor, the team's lone senior. With 28 career homers and 119 runs batted-in, Myor ranks second in school history in each category.  She needs nine homers and four RBI to tie school career marks.
