Dr. Andrew Machamer enters his first season as director of athletic bands at Baldwin Wallace University in 2020-21.  Machamer also serves as an assistant professor of music education.

A native of Pennsylvania, he completed a Bachelor of Science in Music Education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree as well as a Master of Music degree in bassoon performance from the University of Minnesota. Prior to joining the faculty at Baldwin Wallace, Machamer served as the executive and artistic director of the Northern Ohio Youth Orchestra (NOYO), where he was the founder of the NOYO Wind Symphony and Summer Winds Band Camp, both of which were developed to serve intermediate wind players and percussionists in the Northeast Ohio area.

Machamer is a specialist in winds and percussion education. His particular interests are identifying effective pedagogical skills for teaching young musicians and developing practical applications for future music educators to utilize in their own teaching. He has held numerous band-focused teaching positions across all age groups in Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Ohio. At the collegiate level, in addition to music education courses, he has taught music theory and conducting, and has led a strong collegiate bassoon studio at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. His dedication to high-level performance continues to play an important role in his teaching both at BW and in workshops in Ohio and across the country.

At BW, Machamer teaches method courses for music majors, instructs the music education capstone experience and supervises field work and student teaching placements.
