No. 8 Wrestling Goes Unscathed at OAC Quad Meet

TIFFIN, Ohio – The No. 8 Nationally-Ranked Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team competed in an in an Ohio Athletic Conference quad-meet hosted by Heidelberg University, inside the Seiberling Gymnasium.

BW (12-3, 6-1 OAC) went 3-0 at the meet with victories against Otterbein University, Muskingum University and Heidelberg University. The Yellow Jackets had eleven decisions, eight pins, six major decisions, and three technical falls.

No. 8 BW vs. Otterbein

The Yellow Jackets started the quad-match with a 37-10 victory over Otterbein. Freshman Jack Stanley (Brecksville / Brecksville-Broadview Heights) opened the first match with a 1:50 pin. No. 5 Individually-ranked senior All-American and Academic All-OAC 133-pounder Charlie Nash (Norwalk) followed with a pin in 1:29 and has moved up to No. 8 on BW's all-time career wins list with 101. Freshman 141-pounder Conner DeBoe (Mentor) kept the pin-streak going with a 2:34 pin. No. 4 junior two-time All-OAC and Academic All-OAC 149-pounder Stanley Bleich (North Ridgeville/Elyria Catholic) secured another pin in 2:53, to give BW a 24-0 lead. Senior All-OAC 165-pounder Benjamin Hooff (Worthingon/Thomas Worthington) was the next BW victory with a 4-2 decision. Freshman 174-pounder Lucas Salmon (Sandusky/Perkins) followed with a 1:58 pin. No. 8 senior All-American and two-time All-OAC 197-pounder Zeckary Lehman (Akron/Revere) secured an 18-7 major decision for his 109th career victory.

No. 8 BW vs. Muskingum

BW defeated Muskingum by a 45-6 final. Stanley opened the match with a 1:29 pin. Junior 157-pounder Kevin Kelly (North Olmstead) seized a 16-0 technical fall. Senior two-time Academic All-OAC 157-pounder Nick Sbrocco (Perry) pinned his opponent in 1:12 and Salmon followed with a 13-5 major decision. Freshman 197-pounder Matthew Werts (Buffalo, N.Y./Saint Joseph's Collegiate Institute) grabbed a 6-0 decision before freshman 285-pounder Jarod Miller (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds) claimed the final bout with a 5-3 decision.

No. 8 BW vs. Heidelberg

BW beat Heidelberg by a final score of 31-6. Stanley opened the match against Heidelberg with an 11-1 major decision and junior Chad Craft (Dayton/Northmont) followed with a 16-0 tech fall. Bleich secured the 149 bout with a 13-5 major decision and now is tied for 19 on BW's all-time career wins list with 87 triumps. Junior 165-pounder Dalton Leightner (Ravenna/Rootstown) followed with a 9-2 decision for his 70th career victory. Hooff gave BW a 19-3 advantage after a 6-3 decision. Salmon extended the lead to 25-3 after a 17-0 tech fall. Freshman 197-pounder Griffin Rathburn (New Albany/Bishop Hartley) secured a 5-3 decision before sophomore 285-pounder Parker Meaney (Ashtabula/Lakeside) closed the match with a 2-0 decision.

BW will hit the mats next on Saturday February 8 for the 34th annual John Summa Invitational. Matches are set to begin at 10 a.m.
