BW Softball Drops Two Games on Third Day of Tucson Invitational

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team dropped a pair of games, including a heartbreaking eight-inning affair, on the third day of competition at the Tucson Invitational Games at the Lincoln Park

BW (2-4) was shut out for the first time this season as it lost an 8-0 six inning game to Alfred (N.Y.) University.  The Yellow Jackets then rallied from a 6-1 deficit to take an 8-7 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning against Concordia University of Nebraska.  The Bulldogs tied the game in the bottom half of the inning and scored the game's final run in the bottom of the eighth for the 9-8 victory.

Against the Saxons, BW did not score a run on six hits and were led by freshman left fielder Alicia Hack (Pickerington/North) who went 2-for-3.  Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference first baseman Mackenzie Brua (Avon), senior All-OAC shortstop Brittany Lightel (Tallmadge), junior right fielder Alison Fiorucci (Seven Hills/Holy Name) and sophomore All-OAC third baseman DJ Rogers (Warren/Champion) all had one hit each while Brua had the team's lone extra base hit with a double.

In the circle, sophomore Eric Morgan (Brook Park/Midpark) took the loss as she allowed five runs on nine hits with three strikeouts.  Sophomore Mackenzie Nelsen (Powell/Dublin Scioto) made just her second career appearance and allowed three runs (one earned) in one inning of action.

Against Concordia, the Yellow Jackets scored eight runs on 11 hits and was led by Hack and freshman catcher Tori Young (Tallmadge) with two hits apiece.   Hack was 2-for-5 and Young was 2-for-4 with a double and RBI.   Fiorucci, sophomore designated player Alex Miller (Akron/Coventry) and Rogers each had a base knock.  Fiorucci went 1-for-4 with a double and RBI, Miller was 1-for-4 with an RBI and Rogers was 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

In the circle, sophomore Samantha Dostall (Oberlin/Firelands) took the loss as she allowed nine runs (three earned) on 12 hits with two strikeouts.  Sophomore Darcy Daniel (Sandusky/Perkins) pitched two-thirds of an inning and only allowed one hit.

BW is back in action on Wednesday, March 11 when it plays a pair of non-conference games against University of Jamestown (N.D.) and the College of Staten Island (N.Y.) on the fourth day of the Tucson Invitational.  The game against Jamestown is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. with the Staten Islandf game slated for a 6:30 p.m. start.
