BW Softball Team Splits Doubleheader at Hiram

HIRAM, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team split a non-conference doubleheader against Hiram College.

The Terriers (6-16) won the first game, 7-1, and the Yellow Jackets (10-16) came back to earn a shutout in the nightcap, 12-0.

In the opener, Hiram scored one run in the bottom of the first inning, one more in the third, four in the fifth and another in the sixth to build a 7-0 advantage. BW scored its lone run in the seventh inning.

At the plate, seven separate Yellow Jackets had one hit each, including freshman catcher Tori Young (Tallmadge) and sophomore right fielder Darcy Daniel (Sandusky/ Perkins) who each had a double.

On the mound, sophomore Erica Morgan (Brook Park/ Midpark) pitched all six innings, allowed 13 base hits, seven runs (six earned), struck out three Terrier hitters and did not walk a batter. Her record dropped to 4-9. At the plate, Morgan was 1-for-3 and had BW's run batted-in (RBI). 

In the nightcap, BW pounded out 16 base hits and built a 12-0 lead through three innings en route to its 10th win this season.

At the plate, sophomore first baseman Alex Miller (Akron/ Coventry) led the way by going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBIs. In addition, sophomore third baseman D.J. Rogers (Warren/ Champion), senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference first baseman Mackenzie Brua (Avon), junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC second baseman Brittany Lightel (Tallmadge), sophomore pitcher Samantha Dostal (Oberlin/ Firelands) and freshman shortstop Alicia Hack (Pickerington/ North) each had two hits. Daniel also had three RBIs and Rogers and Brua each scored three runs.

On the mound, Dostal pitched all five innings and recorded her second shutout this season and third of her career as she improved her record to 6-7. She allowed three base hits, no runs, struck out two and walked just one.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action  on Monday, April 13 when they travel University Heights for an OAC doubleheader agaisnt cross-town rival John Carroll University  at 3:30 p.m. On Tuesday, April 14, BW is in Ada to play an OAC twinbill at Ohio Northern University at 3:30 p.m. Following another away doubleheader at Pitt-Greensburg on Thursday, April 16, BW returns home to host the University of Mount Union in an OAC twinbill on Saturday, April 18 at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field at 1 p.m.
