Young’s Five RBIs Lead BW Softball to Split on Final Day of Tucson Invitational Games

TUCSON, Ariz. – Freshman catcher Tori Young (Tallmadge) knocked in a career-high five runs batted in as the Baldwin Wallace University softball team ended the Tucson Invitational Games with a split on the final day.

BW (5-7) fell in its opening game to Marian (Wis.) University by a score of 10-2 in five innings but posted its third shutout win of the week as it defeated Edgewood (Wis.) College by a score of 7-0.

Against the Sabres, the Yellow Jackets scored two runs on four hits and were led by senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference first baseman Mackenzie Brua (Avon) who went 2-for-3.   Freshman shortstop Nicole Fletterick (Columbia Station/Olmsted Falls) and sophomore All-OAC third baseman DJ Rogers (Warren/Champion) each had a hit and a RBI.

In the circle, two BW pitchers combined to allow 10 runs (eight earned) on 11 hits.

In the final game of the spring break trip, the Yellow Jackets scored seven runs on eight hits, including scoring all seven runs in six and seventh innings (three in sixth and four in seventh). 

Young led the BW offensive attack as she went 3-for-4 with a double and a career-best five RBIs. She has two RBIs in the sixth in on a base clearing double and followed it up with a base clearing three RBI single in the seventh.

In addition, sophomore right fielder Darcy Daniel (Sandusky/Perkins), freshman left fielder Alicia Hack (Pickerington/North), Brua, Rogers and sophomore pitcher Erica Morgan (Brook Park/Midpark) each had a base knock.  Daniel had a RBI and two runs scored.

In the circle, the Yellow Jackets got another stellar performance from Morgan as she recorded her second straight shutout win.  Morgan allowed just two hits with a career-high 10 strikeouts and no walks.

BW will return to action on Saturday, March 21 when it is scheduled to open OAC play with a doubleheader against Capital University at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field at 1 p.m.   The Yellow Jackets then are scheduled to play the very next day on Sunday, March 22 when they travel to Cleveland for a non-conference doubleheader with Case Western Reserve University at 1 p.m.
