BEAVER FALLS, PENNSYLVANIA – Sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference shortstop Brittany Lightel (Tallmadge) belted her first career home run and junior Nikki Peskura (Strongsville) threw a complete-game three-hitter as the Baldwin Wallace University softball team swept Geneva (Pa.) College, 7-2 and 5-2, today in a non-league doubleheader at Conrady Field.

This is the third of six straight doubleheaders for the Yellow Jackets in six days.  Tomorrow, BW hosts Ohio Athletic Conference rival Capital University at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field in Berea at 3:30 p.m.

With its second game win, BW improves to 16-10 overall. With its loss, Geneva is 13-11 overall.

BW gained a 1-0 lead in the third inning. After there was one out, freshman Jessica Chidsey (West Salem/Black River) walked, advanced to second base when junior All-OAC pitcher/ designated player Tabitha Murray (Mogadore/Field) singled and scored when senior right fielder Alyssa Brown (Hudson) doubled.

The Yellow Jackets increased their lead to 4-0 in the fifth inning as Murray singled and was replaced by pinch runner Kate Carabin (Norwalk/St. Paul). She moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and to third via a wild pitch. After freshman second baseman Alison Fiorucci (Seven Hills/Holy Name) walked, junior 3B Kaity Mullen (Avon Lake) hit a sacrifice fly to score Carabin and record her third run batted-in during the doubleheader. Lightel brought home the final two runs when she smashed her first career home run to left center field.

Geneva got back into the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to close the gap to 4-2.

BW added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning when Fiorucci singled up the middle to start the inning. She advanced to third when Mullen's sacrifice bunt was thrown away. After an out, sophomore 1B Mackenzie Brua (Avon) reached on a fielder's choice that scored Fiorucci for a 5-2 lead.

At the plate, Murray and Lightel led the way with two hits each. Murray was 2-for-3 with a walk. Lightel was 2-for-3 with a run scored and  the 2-run homer in the fifth. In addition, Fiorucci scored twice in the nightcap and four times total during the twinbill.

On the mound, Peskura started and allowed three hits and a pair of runs (both earned), struck out two batters and walked a career-high eight as she improved to 2-3 overall. The complete game was her fourth this season.

Following its doubleheader against Capital tomorrow, BW travels to Tiffin, Ohio to play an OAC twinbill at Heidelberg University on Wednesday, April 17 at 1:00 p.m. and ends its 12-game stretch by hosting The College of Wooster in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday, April 18 at 3:30 p.m.
