BEREA, OHIO – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team fell to Capital University, 12-1 in five innings, in the second game of an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds.  Capital won the first game, 5-1.

The doubleheader sweep drops BW to 16-12 overall and 3-6 in the OAC.  The Crusaders improve to 20-8 overall and 8-2 in the OAC.

The Crusaders took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but sophomore All-OAC shortstop Brittany Lightel (Tallmadge) drew a bases loaded walk in BW's half of the inning to even the score.

Capital rallied for six runs in the second frame, two in the third, and three more in the fourth, and ended the game after five innings.

In addition to Lightel, who went 1-for-1 with a walk and a run batted-in at the plate, senior left fielder Ashley Elber (Huron/Edison) went 1-for-2 with a double, walk, and run scored.

Junior right-hander Nikki Peskura (Strongsville) started and allowed seven runs (four) earned on eight hits, and suffered the loss to fall to 2-4.  Sophomore righty Lauren Mims (Wellington), making her fifth appearance of the season, gave up five runs (four earned) on four hits, and struck out four batters and walked one.

BW faces Heidelberg University in an OAC doubleheader tomorrow at 1 p.m. in Tiffin before hosting The College of Wooster on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in the last of six straight doubleheaders.
