BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team defeated both Oberlin College 2-1 on Wednesday and Waynesburg (Pa.) University 4-1 on Saturday to complete a perfect 2-0 week.
Week in Review
-The reigning Ohio Athletic Conference Forward of the Year, junior two-time All-OAC and Academic All-OAC forward Danny Ruple (Berea/Berea-Midpark), led the way this week with three goals and one assist for seven points
-Junior midfielder Kurt Raney (Mentor) scored his first goal since the 2016 season
-Senior Academic All-OAC goalkeeper Brian Haviland (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) picked up his second and third wins this season, marking a career high for the senior
-Six different Yellow Jackets scored at least one point this week
-Ruple leads the OAC in shots taken (43) and is second in goals (9) and points (22) and fourth in assists (4)
-Junior Academic All-OAC forward Cannon Dees (Berea/Berea-Midpark) is third in the conference with his team-leading five assists
-Head Coach Reid Ayers' take: "We're able to see a transfer from what we do in training to our games. In recent games, we've seen glimmers of some really good stuff but we've also had some letdowns. We just need to be more consistent with our performance in game."

-The Yellow Jackets finish up non-conference play on the road before returning home to open up OAC action. "The guys are looking forward to starting conference play," Ayers said. "They're excited to get that phase of the season started."
-Wednesday, Sept. 26 at Grove City (Pa.) College (5-1-2)-> Last season, BW trailed Grove City 2-0 before battling back to tie the game in the 81st minute, eventually ending in a 2-2 double overtime tie. "Every year, you know what you're going to get with Grove City. They're organized and are going to work very hard. They're a difficult team to play against. It'll be a great final game before conference play because all the things we need to work on are going to be on display," said Ayers.
-Saturday, Sept. 29, vs. Capital (6-1)-> Capital was an NCAA Tournament team last season and has been off to a strong start this fall. "Capital is a team that's seasoned, a quality team all across the board. They're lethal at restarts so we have to limit those opportunities. It's a very healthy test to open conference play," Ayers said.
-Focus for the week: Put together a complete game. "Against two regionally ranked teams, we have to perform at a high level for longer periods of time," Ayers said. "The level of competition is going to be really good and we're going to find out a lot about ourselves."
