BEREA, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University Director of Athletics Kris A. Diaz '78 is proud to announce that Dean Morse '03 will be taking over as the new head women's tennis coach.
Diaz said, "We're excited to have Dean back at BW. Dean's a former student-athlete that played on our men's tennis team and was a key member of that team. Since graduating he has gone on and became a tennis professional and has worked at Paramount Tennis Club. We are all excited to get him back here at BW and lead our women's program."
Morse, a former Yellow Jacket student-athlete, earned four varsity letters and was a two-year captain for the men's tennis team. He holds the BW and Ohio Athletic Conference record for most consecutive singles wins with 35. As a senior, Morse earned honorable mention All-OAC honors as well as led the team to an undefeated season (22-0) and a conference championship. Morse also played one season of basketball (1999-2000) and played one season of golf in the spring of 2000.
While being a student and key member of the men's tennis team, Morse also assisted women's basketball head coach Cheri Harrer, who said, "Dean is an excellent coach. He has always had a great demeanor with our women athletes as a teacher and motivator. He comes from a line of coaches so he saw good coaching growing up, and was coached well by Brian Rector. I'm excited for what Dean can do for our women's tennis players and the program!"
After graduating from BW, Morse went on to Perry High School where he served as an assistant coach for the varsity girls tennis team in 2004.
Morse then went onto serve as the Head Professional at the Paramount Tennis Club in 2006. As the Head Professional at the club, Morse taught private lessons to both adults and youth athletes, as well as coordinated programs and events. Morse also managed summer United States Tennis Association adult practices and assisted team captains in coordinating team line-ups.
Morse accumulated more coaching experience as the varsity girls head tennis coach at Archbishop Hoban High School in 2009, winning Coach of the Year in 2011, until he left in 2016.
"I'm excited to continue the growth of the women's program," Morse stated. "I want to help the university strive and have the girls succeed in the classroom, as well as on the court. I've really looked forward to this opportunity since I've graduated, and my number one goal is to bring home an OAC championship."
Morse earned a Bachelor of Science in education from BW in 2003 and also is a certified member of the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) and United States Professional Tennis Registry (USPTR) since 2005 and 2004, respectively.
