Softball Rallies Twice for Non-Conference Sweep of Ohio Wesleyan

DELAWARE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team rallied in both games of a non-conference doubleheader to sweep Ohio Wesleyan University on Margaret Sagan Field.

In game one, BW (14-8) scored four runs on 11 hits as it plated one run in the first and three in the seventh, including two on the game-winning two-run triple by sophomore right hander pitcher Maddie Lester (Boardman).  Ohio Wesleyan (11-6-1) scored two runs on five hits as it pushed one run across the plate in the first and third

At the Plate

  • Sophomore shortstop Lucia Wolford (McDonald) went 3-for-4 with a career-high two doubles and a run batted-in (RBI)
  • Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC second baseman Emily Mau (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) went 2-for-4 with a run scored
  • Freshman left fielder Courtney Stewart (Clinton/Chippewa) went for 2-for-3 with a run scored.  It was the first two hits of Stewart's career.
  • Four other Yellow Jacket hitters had a base knock led by the game-winning triple by Lester
  • Lester, who tallied her first career triple at BW, had a career-best tying two RBIs
  • Senior All-OAC catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) had an RBI

In the Circle

  • Lester won her fourth game of the season as she allowed two runs on five hits with five strikeouts and eight walks

In game two, BW scored a season-high 11 runs on 12 hits as it plated six runs in the second, two in the fifth, one in the sixth and two in the seventh.  The Battling Bishops scored nine runs on 15 hits as they pushed two runs across the plate in the first, three in the third, three in the fourth and one in the sixth.

At the Plate

  • Sophomore right fielder Steph Mraz (Strongsville) went 3-for-3 with a career-high three runs scored and RBI
  • Lester went 3-for-4 with a double, career-best tying four RBIs and walk
  • Six Yellow Jacket hitters had a base knock

In the Circle

  • Junior righty Taryn Welty (Medina/Wooster) had the no decision as she allowed seven runs (four earned) on nine hits with four walks in three innings pitched
  • Freshman right hander Shelby Morris (Centerburg) picked up her first career win as she allowed two runs on four hits with two strikeouts and three walks in three innings pitched
  • Junior righty Marisa Hall (Paris/East Canton) earned her second save of the season as she did not allow a run or a hit with one strikeout in the final inning

BW is back in action on Wednesday, April 10 when they travel to Alliance for an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader against the University of Mount Union on the 23rd Street Softball Field at 3 p.m.
