Softball Drops Two Games on Day Two of Rebel Spring Games

KISSIMMEE, FLA. – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team's dropped a pair of non-conference games on the second day of the annual Rebel Spring Games at the Osceola County Softball Complex.

BW (2-2) opened the day with a heartbreaking 5-4 loss to Montclair State (N.J.) University.  The Yellow Jackets held a 4-2 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning before the Red Hawks scored three runs to snatch away the victory.  In game two, BW suffered its first shutout defeat of the season losing a 5-0 game to Thomas More (Ky.) College.

Against Montclair State, BW scored four runs on a season-high 11 hits.  The Yellow Jackets scored two runs in the first, one in the second and one in the fourth.  The Red Hawks scored five runs on six hits as it plated two runs in the first and the decisive three runs in the sixth.

The BW offense was led by sophomore rightfielder Lena Kortis (Massillon/Perry) as she went 3-for-5 with her first career-double and a run batted-in.  Freshman third baseman Paige Loveless (Mechanicsburg) recorded her first career base hits as she went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.  Freshman shortstop Erica English (North Olmsted) went 2-for-4.  Three other Yellow Jacket hitters recorded a hit while junior leftfielder Mackenzie Nelsen (Powell/Dublin Scioto) had two RBIs and freshman first baseman Alexis Boledovic (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) had an RBI and her first career stolen base.

In the circle, Academic All-OAC pitcher Erica Morgan (Brook Park/Midpark) suffered her first loss of the season as she allowed five runs (two earned) on six hits with eight strikeouts in six innings of action.

Against Thomas More, the Yellow Jackets scored no runs on one hit.  The Saints scored five runs on a BW opponent season-best 12 hits as they plated one run in the third, one in the fourth and three in the seventh.

Boledovic recorded the Yellow Jacket hit as she had a single in the fifth inning. 

In the circle, junior pitcher Samantha Dostall (Oberlin/Firelands) took her first loss of the season as she allowed five runs on 11 hits with two strikeouts in six and one-third innings.  Junior pitcher Christine Lyzen (Columbia Station/Columbia) saw her first career action as she pitched the final two-thirds of an inning and allowed just one hit.

BW is back in action on Tuesday, March 8 as it continues play on day three of competition at the Rebel Spring Games with two non-conference games against Defiance College and Rhodes (Tenn.) College.  The game against Defiance is at 9 a.m. and the Rhodes game is slated for an 11:15 p.m. start.
