Softball Swept in OAC Doubleheader by Ohio Northern

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team was swept in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader against Ohio Northern University on the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field. 

Ohio Northern (20-14, 9-5 OAC) won the opener by a final score of 5-0 and took the second game by a final score of 10-1 in five innings.

In game one, BW (10-20, 3-11 OAC) was held scoreless on five hits.   The Polar Bears scored five runs on nine hits as they tallied four runs in the third and one in the fifth.

The Yellow Jacket offense was led by freshman catcher Sami Minor (North Royalton) as she had her first career multiple hit game as she was 2-for-2.  Sophomore designated player Sierra Bennett (Tallmadge), sophomore left fielder Lena Kortis (Massillon/Perry) and freshman first baseman Alexis Boledovic (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) collected the other three base knocks. 

In the circle, junior Academic All-OAC pitcher Erica Morgan (Brook Park/Midpark) took the loss as she allowed four runs on six hits with two strikeouts in four innings.  Junior Christine Lyzen (Columbia Station/Columbia) pitcher the final three innings and allowed one run on three hits with one strikeout. 

In game two, BW scored one run on four hits hits and pushed its lone run across the plate in the third inning.   Ohio Northern scored 10 runs on eight hits as it tallied three runs in the second and third and four in the fourth.

The Yellow Jacket offense got a base hit each from Kortis, junior right fielder Mackenzie Nelsen (Powell/Dublin Scioto) freshman short stop Erica English (North Olmsted), freshman center fielder Abbie Thompson (Madison).  Kortis had the run batted-in (RBI) and English scored the run. 

In the circle, Morgan suffered the loss as she allowed 10 runs (seven earned) on eight hits with six strikeouts in five innings pitched. 

BW was scheduled to be back in action on Thursday, April 21 against the University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg but that doubleheader has been cancelled.   The Yellow Jackets return to action on Saturday, April 23 when they travel to Bexley for an OAC doubleheader against Capital University at 1 p.m.
