Dostall’s No-Hitter Highlights Softball Season Opening Sweep

KISSIMMEE, FLA. – Junior pitcher Samantha Dostall (Oberlin/Firelands) hurled her second career no-hitter highlighted the Baldwin Wallace University softball team's season opening non-conference doubleheader sweep on the first day of the annual Rebel Spring Games at the Osceola County Softball Complex.

BW opened the season and the day with an 8-2 victory against Westminster (Pa.) College.  The Yellow Jackets ended the day with a 2-1 win against Beloit (Wis.) College.

Against Westminster, BW scored eight runs on eight hits as it crossed the plate three times in the first, once in the third and four times in the seventh.  The Yellow Jackets allowed two runs on five hits.

The BW offense was led by sophomore designated hitter Sierra Bennett (Tallmadge) as was the lone BW player to record multiple hits.  Bennet went 2-for-4 with a career-high four runs batted-in (RBIs).   Six other Yellow Jacket hitters tallied a hit while junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference second baseman DJ Rogers (Warren/Champion), junior Academic All-OAC leftfielder Mackenzie Nelsen (Powell/Dublin Scioto) and freshman shortstop Erica English (North Olmsted) all had an RBI.  

In the circle, Academic All-OAC pitcher Erica Morgan (Brook Park/Midpark) allowed two earned runs on five hits with seven strikeouts in seven innings of action for her 14th career victory.

Against Beloit, the Yellow Jackets scored two runs on five hits with both runs coming in the third inning.  BW allowed one run on no hits.

Five Yellow Jacket hitters recorded a base knock with sophomore catcher Lena Kortis (Massillon/Perry) and junior rightfielder Nicolette Kunath (Columbia Station/Columbia) each recording their first career hit and RBI. 

In the circle, Dostall threw her second no-hitter as she allowed one run on no hits with six strikeouts, including one to end the game, in seven innings of action.  She won her 14th career game.

BW is back in action on Monday, March 7 as it continues play on day two of competition at the Rebel Spring Games with two non-conference games against Montclair State (N.J.) University and Thomas More (Ky.) College.  The game against Montclair State is at 1:30 p.m. and the Thomas More game is slated for a 3:45 p.m. start.
