Softball Knocked Off by Capital in OAC Doubleheader

BEXLEY, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team fell in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader against Capital University on Clowson Field.

Capital (16-16, 7-8 OAC) won the opener by a final score of 6-2 and took the second game by a final score of 7-2.

In game one, BW (10-22, 3-13 OAC) scored two runs on six hits as it plated one run in the first and fifth innings.   The Crusaders scored six runs on 10 hits as they tallied two runs in the second, third and fifth innings.

The Yellow Jacket offense was led by junior All-OAC second baseman DJ Rogers (Warren/Champion) and freshman centerfielder Abbie Thompson (Madison) as each went 2-for-3.  Thompson also scored one run.  Sophomore Lena Kortis (Massillon/Perry) was 1-for-3 with a double and run batted-in.  Freshman shortstop Erica English (North Olmsted) was 1-for-4 with a run scored.

In the circle, junior Academic All-OAC pitcher Erica Morgan (Brook Park/Midpark) took the loss as she allowed six runs (four earned) on nine his with one strikeout in four and two-thirds innings.  Junior Mackenzie Nelsen(Powell/Dublin Scioto) pitched the final one and a third inning and allowed no runs on just one hit.

In game two, BW scored two runs on four hits hits as it plated one run in the second and third innings.  Capital scored seven runs on 11 hits as it tallied four runs in the first, two runs in the second and one in the third.

RogersEnglish, freshman first baseman Alexis Boledovic (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) and freshman third baseman Paige Loveless (Mechanicsburg) each had a base knock.  Loveless and Kortis each had an RBI.

In the circle, Morgan pitched four innings and allowed seven runs (one earned) with one strikeout as she took the loss.  Nelsen pitched the final two innings and did not allow a run on two hits with one strikeout.

BW is back in action on Monday, April 25 when it travels to Cleveland for a rescheduled non-conference doubleheader against cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University at Mather Park.  First pitch in game one is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.  The Yellow Jackets close out the regular season on Saturday, April 30 when they host an OAC doubleheader against Muskingum University on the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field at 1 p.m.
