Men’s Basketball Sets Sights on the Top of the OAC

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team eyes the top of the OAC in a return to a full season. The team will hit the court for the first time on November 9.

Under the direction of seventh year head coach Tom Heil, the team returns 10 letterwinners and two All-OAC players from last year's team that finished 2-6 overall and 2-6 in the OAC, in the conference only, shortened season. Heil returns 13 players and welcomes three freshmen.

Leading the back court for BW is junior All-OAC guard Anthony Mazzeo (North Canton/Anthony Mazzeo) who lead the team in scoring. Mazzeo averaged a career high 18.3 points per game. He also averaged 4.1 rebounds per game and 2.4 assists per game. Joining Mazzeo in the backcourt will be sophomore All-OAC Drew Wennes (Huron), who averaged 14.8 points in his first season at BW. He also brought in 4.5 rebounds per game and dished out 1.1 assists per game. Strengthening the backcourt will be senior Shane Zalba (Mentor). Juniors Jake Snyder (Akron/Archbishop Hoban), Samson Albert (Akron/Revere) and Lian Levesque (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark). Sophomore Luke Driscoll (Carmel, Calif./Stevenson School) and looking to make an immediate impact will be freshman Trent Jakacki (Mantua/Crestwood).

Manning the front court for the Yellow Jackets will sophomore forward Christian Pfeiffer (Amherst), who is coming off a freshman season in which he averaged 8.9 points per game, 5.4 rebounds per game and 2.4 blocks per game. Fortifying the forward position will be senior Terrell Hicks (Cuyahoga Falls/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy), juniors Luke Coyne (Rocky River) and Jackson Simmons (Wadsworth), sophomores Wyatt Flynn (Independence) and Rob Watson III (Sagamore Hills/Nordonia). Also looking to earn minutes are freshman Ashton Price (Bay Village/Bay) and Zoltan Nagy (Lakewood/St. Edward).

BW opens the season on a two-game road trip beginning against Hiram College on Tuesday, November 9. The home opener will be Saturday, November 20 when the team welcomes Hamilton (N.Y.) College to the Ursprung Gymnasium. The Yellow Jackets open OAC play on December 1, when they host Heidelberg University.
