Men’s Basketball Defeats Ohio Northern in Road Contest

ADA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team defeated Ohio Northern University in an Ohio Athletic Conference match by a final score of 92-65.

BW (8-4, 3-2 OAC) was led by sophomore All-OAC guard Drew Wennes (Huron), finishing with 19 points and four rebounds. Junior guard Jake Snyder (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) followed up with 12 points and two rebounds. Junior All-OAC guard Anthony Mazzeo (North Canton/Massilon Jackson) and sophomore forward Christian Pfeiffer (Amherst) each added 11 points. Sophomore guard Luke Driscoll (Carmel, Calif./Stevenson School) finished 10 points and four assists.

ONU (7-5, 1-4 OAC) was led by junior forward Grant Heileman with 15 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Junior Academic All-OAC guard Landen Long and freshman forward Garrett Chapin contributed 12 points each.

The Yellow Jackets came out hot, opening the match on an 8-0 run. BW held the lead for most of the half, but ONU was able to cut BW's lead down to one. A three-point shot from junior guard Samson Albert (Akron/Revere) jumpstarted an 11-0 streak for the Yellow Jackets to make it 24-12. The remainder of the half featured back and forth action as BW kept the upper hand. Mazzeo and freshman forward Ashton Price (Bay Village/Bay) put up a pair of three-point shots, sending the Yellow Jackets into the half leading 58-28. 

BW kept the momentum rolling into the second half. The Polar Bears cut into the Yellow Jackets' lead early, but BW was able to hold a steady 30-point lead. Midway through the half, a three-point shot from Price followed by a layup from Pfeiffer gave the Yellow Jackets a 34-point lead. With six minutes left, ONU scored 11 straight points before Albert cut in with a jump shot. BW controlled the rest of the half, ending the game with a 92-65 victory.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, January 15th when they travel to Columbus, Ohio to take on Capital University in an OAC match at 4:00 P.M.
