BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin Wallace University sophomore 149-pound wrestler Joey Schmidt (Hinckley/ Brunswick) is this week's Ohio Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week. It is the first time he has earned this honor.

Last Saturday, Dec. 14, Schmidt won his only match of the week with a pin in 1:24 in the Yellow Jackets' 37-9 victory at Hunter (N.Y.) College on December 14 that kept BW undefeated at 3-0 in dual matches. With his win, Schmidt improved to 12-7 this season and 29-22 in his career.

"We are pleased that Joey won the OAC Wrestler of the Week honor," said third-year Yellow Jacket Head Coach Jamie Gibbs. "He is one of our best young wrestlers on a team with a great deal of promise.  He wrestled well at Hunter and deserves this accolade."

Schmidt and the Yellow Jackets are idle until competing at the Waynesburg (Pa.) University Invitational Tournament on January 4, 2014.  Action begins at 10:00 a.m.
