BEREA, OHIO – Sophomore attack Victoria Budzyn (East Aurora, N.Y.) recorded her team-best fourth hat trick of the season, but the Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team lost to Otterbein University, 11-6,  at Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium.  The hat trick was Budzyn's second in the last three games.

The loss drops BW to 3-5 overall.  Otterbein evens its record at 6-6.

Budzyn's quartet of goals gives her a team-high 18 for the season.  Freshman attack Jackie Buchheister (Biglerville, Pa.) and junior midfielder Colleen Bodkin (East Aurora, N.Y.) each scored goals, and freshman attack Alicia Dawson (Wooster) recorded her first career assist.

Sophomore Victoria Blatt led Otterbein with four goals, and junior Alyssa Johnson and freshman Annie Kelly each scored twice.

Budzyn, who also picked up a game-high nine ground balls, gave the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal at the 23:35 mark of the first half, but Blatt scored less than a minute later and Kelly added a tally at 19:40 to give the Cardinals a 2-1 advantage.

BW tied the game at 15:38 on Buchheister's goal, but sophomore Alanna Schultz scored at 3:54 and gave Otterbein a 3-2 edge going into halftime.

Blatt and Kelly helped the Cardinals open the second half on a 2-0 run within the first four minutes before Budzyn scored a pair of goals, the last coming at 19:23, to pull BW to within 5-4, its smallest deficit for the remainder of the game.

Otterbein outscored BW, 6-2, including two more goals by Blatt, in the last 18 minutes.

Bodkin, who collected six ground balls, scored at 3:46 for BW before Budzyn's fourth goal of the game with 50 seconds to play.

Otterbein outshot the Yellow Jackets, 22-11, and controlled 13 of 19 draws.  BW held a 39-36 advantage in ground balls.  Both teams combined to clear just 22 of 39 attempts.

Junior Bridget Walsh (Elyria/Elyria Catholic) logged all 60 minutes in goal and made seven saves for the Yellow Jackets. Freshman Karen Brady collected three saves in 60 minutes of action for the Cardinals.

BW faces Franciscan University tomorrow at noon in Steubenville in a rematch of an April 6 game that took place in Berea.  BW won that game, 10-4.  The Yellow Jackets close their inaugural season of play Tuesday, April 23 by hosting the University of Mount Union at 7 p.m.
