BW Women's Lacrosse Beats Franciscan, 10-4

BEREA, Ohio – Sophomore attack Victoria Budzyn (East Aurora, N.Y./ East Aurora) recorded her third hat trick in four games to lead the Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team to a 10-4 win against Franciscan University today (Saturday, April 6, 2013) at Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium.  Budzyn scored four goals for the third time and has a team-high 14 scores.

The win improves the Yellow Jackets to 3-3 overall.  Franciscan falls to 1-10.

In addition to Budzyn, who also controlled a game-high three draws, junior midfielder Colleen Bodkin (East Aurora, N.Y./ East Aurora) scored two goals and collected a game and season high 15 groundballs.

Freshmen Tracy McClelland and Lauren Noce each scored twice for the Barons.

BW began the game on a 6-0 run and took a 6-2 lead into halftime.  Freshman defender Alicia Dawson (Wooster/ Senior) began the scoring jaunt at the 23:03 mark.  Junior midfielder Ellen Fedick (Rochester, N.Y./ Our Lady of Mercy) helped with the assist, her second of the season.

Senior attack Sam Husted (Olmsted Falls) and Bodkin each scored unassisted goals, and Budzyn added a pair of scores, in the first half.

The Barons closed the half on a 2-0 run with an unassisted goal from McClelland at 1:39 and a score from Noce, assisted by freshman Shannon Root, with 37 seconds remaining.

Freshman defender Tia Esbenshade (Wooster/ Senior) scored an unassisted goal just 51 seconds into the second half to extend BW's lead to 7-2.

Noce scored at the 22:03 mark, but the Yellow Jackets rattled of three consecutive goals, including two unassisted tallies by Budzyn and another score from BodkinEsbenshade notched the assist on Bodkin's goal.

McClelland scored the Barons' final goal at 4:00.

BW outshot Franciscan, 33-12, collected 30 more groundballs, and cleared 21 of 25 attempts.

Junior Bridget Walsh (Elyria/ Elyria Catholic) logged all 60 minutes in goal and made four saves for the Yellow Jackets.  Bethany Potvin collected 18 saves in 60 minutes of action for Franciscan.

BW hosts Alma (Mich.) College tomorrow at noon at Tressel Field.
