BW Softball Splits OAC Twinbill at Capital

BEXLEY, OHIO  – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team split an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader with host Capital University in the OAC opener for each team at Clowson Field.  The Crusaders won the opener, 6-5, with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, and The Yellow Jackets captured the nightcap, 8-6.

With its split, BW is now 5-9 overall and 1-1 in the OAC. Capital is 10-6 overall and 1-1 in the OAC.

In the first game, the Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the second inning and added a run in the fifth to make the score 5-0. The Crusaders anwered back with four runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 5-4.  Capital scored the game-deciding runs in the bottom of the seventh for its 6-5 win.  

The BW hitters were lead by senior All-OAC player Tabaitha Murray (Kent/ Field) as she was 2-for-3, with one run batted-in (RBI) and senior All-OAC outfielder Nikki Peskura (Strongsville) was 2-for-4 with a double, runs scored and RBI.  

On the mound, Murray pitched six innnings, allowed 10 hits and six runs (all earned) and walked four Capital batters as she dropped to 1-4 overall.      

In the nightcap, BW built leads of 5-0 and 8-2 after five innings before Capital game back to make it close. The game ended with a diving catch by sophomore rightfielder Allison Fiorucci (even Hills/ Holy Name).

At the plate, freshman third baseman DJ Rogers (Warren/ Champion) was 2-for-3 with her first-ever homerun and three RBI, junior 1B Mackenzie Brua (Avon) and Fiorucci each were 2-for-3 with a double.

On the mound, freshman Erica Morgan (Brook Park/ Midpark) pitched the entire game, allowed six runs (four earned) witgh four strikeouts and two walks as she improved to 3-1.
BW is back in action on Thursday, March 27 when it travels to Wooster, Ohio to play The College of Wooster in a non-conference doubleheader at 3:30 p.m.  The Yellow Jackets plays their first home doubleheader on Saturday, March 29 when they welcome OAC-rival Marietta College to Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field for a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m.
