BW Softball Wins Fourth Straight, Stays Atop OAC Standings

TIFFIN, Ohio -- The Baldwin Wallace University softball team won its fourth straight game and remained in a first place tie in the Ohio Athletic Conference standings as it swept its second consecutive OAC doubleheader on the road against Heidelberg University at Jocko Huffman Field.

BW (9-10, 5-1 OAC) won the first game by a final score of 5-1 and took the night cap by a final of 7-2. On their four game winning streak, the Yellow Jackets have outscored their opponents, 17-7. Heidelberg (10-8, 1-5 OAC) has now lost four straight games.

In game one, the BW offense scored five runs on seven hits and was led by senior All-OAC pitcher Tabitha Murray (Mogadore/Field) as she went 3-for-3 with a double, walk and run scored.  Sophomore rightfielder Alison Fiorucci (Seven Hills/Holy Name) she went 2-for-4 with her third career triple, two runs scored and two runs batted in (RBI). Freshman centerfielder Sydney Kimball (Brecksville/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI while senior All-OAC shortstop Lauren Feciuch (Kent/Field) provided the other hit as she went 1-for-3 with a walk and run scored.

On the mound, Murray picked up her second straight victory and third of the season as she pitched a complete game seven innings and allowed one run (unearned) on two hits with four strikeouts and two walks.  

In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored seven runs on 12 hits and were led by freshman third baseman DJ Rogers (Warren/Champion) as she went 3-for-3 with a walk, run scored and RBI.  Freshman pitcher Erica Morgan (Brook Park/Midpark) went 2-for-4 with her first career homerun, a run scored and two RBI while Kimball was 2-for-4 with a run scored, stolen base and RBI.  Fiorucci went 1-for-3 with her third career homerun, two runs scored, a stolen base and one RBI. Murray also contributed a hit and RBI while junior third baseman Mackenzie Brua (Avon), senior catcher Sami Brown (Kent/Field) and Feciuch provide the other three hits.

On the mound, Morgan won her third game of the season as she pitched a complete game seven innings and allowed two runs on eight hits with a strikeout and two walks.

BW is back in action this Friday, April 4 when it hosts a non-conference doubleheader on Friday, April 4 on the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field at 3:30 p.m.  The Yellow Jackets then return to OAC play on Saturday, April 5 when they travel to Westerville to take on Otterbein University at 1 p.m.
