Men’s Tennis Earns Shutout in OAC Opener against Mount Union

NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis shut out the University of Mount Union by a final score of 9-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference opener for both teams at the North Ridge Racquet Club

BW (16-1, 1-0 OAC) won its fifth straight match and snapped a two-match losing skid to Mount Union (6-4, 0-1 OAC).  The Yellow Jackets have won their last three matches by shutout and have now posted 11 shut outs on the season.

The Yellow Jackets gained a 3-0 lead after doubles play. Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC standout Peter Harris (Akron/Revere) and senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC player Doug Ganim (Westerville/Olentangy Orange) rallied from down 4-0 to win first singles by a score of 8-6 to up their record to 17-3.   Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC player Kyle Patterson (Wooster/Triway) and freshman Dominic Polifrone (Hudson) won at second doubles by a score of 8-2 to improve to 17-5 on the season.   Senior Kevin Fredrick (Archbold) and freshman Matt Harris (Akron/Revere) took third doubles by a score of 8-4 to improve to 10-3 on the year.

In singles action, the Yellow Jackets won all six matches to secure the victory. Peter Harris won first singles by scores of 6-2 and 6-4 and now is 20-3 on the season.   Ganim took number two by identical scores of 6-0 and improved to 16-2 this season.  Patterson netted a win at number three by identical scores of 6-0 as he improved to 20-1 on the season. Polifrone posted a 6-0 and 6-1 victory at number four to up his record to 19-1 this year.  Junior Nathan Katz (Upper Arlington/Bexley) kept his undefeated season alive as he improved to 17-0 at number singles with a win by identical scores of 6-2.   Junior Jake Liebler (Medina) secured number six single by scores of 6-3 and 6-1 to improve to 11-3 on the year.

BW is back in action on Saturday, April 2 when it hosts an OAC match against Otterbein University on the Pop Collins Tennis Courts at 1 p.m.
