Men’s Swimming and Diving Teams Picks Up First Victory of the Season

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving teams picked up its first victory of the season as it defeated Bethany (W. Va.) College in the BW Natatorium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

BW (1-3) defeated Bethany by a score of 162-112.

The Yellow Jackets were led by junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference performer Jacob Burk (Bowling Green), sophomore All-OAC performer Tyler Thompson (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) and freshman freestyler Alexander Morrow (Winchester, Va.).

Burk won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:07.94 and the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 10:20.00.  Thompson notched three wins in the 50-yard breaststroke in a career-best time of 26.97 seconds, the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:00.32 and the 100-yard individual medley in a career-best time of 57.07.   Morrow won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:58.28, the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 59.39 and was runner-up in the 100-yard individual medley in a time of 1:01.15.

Senior Sean Rudolph, Jr. (Warrensville Heights) posted a pair of victories in the 50-yard butterfly in a time of 25.39 and the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 59.10.

Senior freestyler Nathan Onchuck (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 23.58 and was second in the 50-yard backstroke in a time of 29.11.  Freshman Tyler Allison (Napoleon) won the 100-yard freestyle in a career-best time 53.03.

Freshman diver Cameron O'Brien (Toledo) finished second in both diving events with scores of 129.75 and 196.80, respectively.  Freshman Kevin Hartenstein (Hermitage, Pa. / Hickory) finished second in the 500-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 5:24.88.

In relay action the 200-yard medley relay team of Morrow, Thompson, Rudolph, Jr. and Onchuck hit the wall in a winning time of 1:42.70.   The 200-yard freestyle team of Allison, freshman freestyle John Beyer (Columbus/Centennial), senior freestyle Henry Hammond (Cleveland Heights) and Rudolph, Jr. picked up the victory in a time of 1:36.45.

BW returns to action on Saturday, November 7 when it travels to Hiram for a tri-meet against Hiram College and The College of Wooster in the Alumni Memorial Pool at 1 p.m.
