BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Heidelberg University, 8-1, today (Wednesday, April 20) at the "Pop" Collins Tennis Courts in Berea.  The win for the Yellow Jackets was their eighth in the past nine matches.

With its win, BW is now 12-7 overall and 5-1 in the OAC.  The Yellow Jackets have won 52 of their past 55 OAC matches, including three of the past four OAC titles. BW has also advanced to three of the last four NCAA Division III National Tournaments.  With its loss, the Student Princes fell to 2-12 overall and 1-4 in the OAC.

The Yellow Jackets jumped out front by winning two of three doubles matches.  The number one duo of senior Caitlyn Pecinovsky (Whitehall/ Columbus Bishop Hartley) and sophomore Rebecca Mittler (Elyria/ Catholic) won, 8-3,  to improve to 17-8 overall this season.  The duo of freshman Whitney Yoder (Medina/ Senior) and freshman Morgan Baker (Vermilion/ Elyria Catholic) picked up a win at third doubles by an 8-2 score.

BW won all six singles matches, four which were via 6-0, 6-0 shutouts. The four Yellow Jackets who in singles without dropping a game were Pecinovsky at No.1, junior Safaa Hajji (Rabat, MOROCCO) at No.2, senior Emily Pelosi (Uniontown/Green) at No.5 and senior Katy Marshall (Medina/Senior) at No. 6.

Also winning in singles play for BW were Mittler at No.3 by scores of 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-2) and junior No.4 player Jenny Greene (Worthington/ Thomas Worthington) by scores of 6-1, 6-1.

After 19 matches this season, Greene leads the team in singles with 17 wins and is 17-6 overall. Both Pecinovsky and Pelosi are 16-8. Marshall is 14-9, Mittler is 14-12 and Hajji is 10-2.

BW is back in action on Friday, April 22 to play Wilmington College on the "Pop" Collins Courts at 1:00 p.m.
