BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team fell to Grove City (Pa.) College in a non-conference matchup by a final score of 3-1, suffering its first loss on Tressel Field inside the George Finnie Stadium.

BW (7-3) saw their four-game win streak halted tonight, as its all-time record against Grove City (2-4-2) dropped to 9-7-4 as well.

The Wolverines struck first in the 30th minute of the game, when senior Ruby Mattson shot the ball from 25 yards out and found the back of the net to put Grove City up 1-0. Roughly five minutes later, junior Wolverine Michaela Burke was sprung on a semi-breakaway by sophomore Jacqui Netschert. She scored on a far-side shot increasing their lead to 2-0 before the break. Despite trailing by two goals at the end of the first half, the Yellow Jackets played well controlling ball possession for the majority of time and applying some offensive pressure with six shots and four corner kicks in the frame..

Grove City increased their lead to 3-0 early in the second half when senior Jess Book headed in a bouncing ball that found its way into the box off a corner kick in the 55th minute. BW showed glimpses of a comeback in the 73rd minute, when junior midfielder Kaitlin McGuire (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) followed up her blocked shot with another one that found the top left corner of the net from just outside the box. McGuire's first goal of the season cut the Wolverines lead to 3-1, but it was eventually all that the Yellow Jackets could muster in the offensive column as time subsequently expired.

BW Senior goalkeeper Emma Bruno (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bethel Park) made four saves on seven shots faced. Tonight's game is the lone blemish on her otherwise perfect repertoire of games this season, as her record falls to 7-1.

The Yellow Jackets returns to the pitch on Wednesday, October 2 when it takes on Ohio Wesleyan University in its last non-conference matchup of the regular season at 7:00 p.m. on Tressel Field.
