Wrestling Team Ends Season By Placing Sixth at OAC Championships

TIFFIN, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College wrestling team ended its season by placing sixth at the 2012 Ohio Athletic Conference Championships, today (Saturday, February 25, 2012) in the Seiberling Gymnasium on the campus of Heidelberg University.

Ohio Northern, who also won the regular season, finished first with 157 points.   Mount Union, who won both the regular season and tournament titles a season ago, finished second with 150 points.  Heidelberg finished third with135  points followed by John Carroll (103), Muskingum (36) and B-W (31).

The Yellow Jackets were led by junior 197-pounder Joe Georgian (Eastlake/Villa Angela St. Joseph), freshman 149-pounder Sam McIntosh (South Euclid/Brush) and sophomore 133-pounder Andrew Taylor (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) as all three placed fourth.  Georgian went 2-2 on the day while McIntosh and Taylor each posted records of 1-2.

Georgian won his opening match by a 6-5 decision over Luke Weber of Muskingum but then fell in the semifinals by a major decision score of 15-3 to Andrew Lovins of Heidelberg. He then advanced to the consolation championship with a medical forfeit win over Chris Hahn of Mount Union.   In the consolation final,  Georgian fell by a 5-1 decision to Jim Nemunaitis of John Carroll.  He ends the season with a record of 10-10.

McIntosh received a bye into the semifinals but then was pinned by Kevin Shadrach of Mount Union.  He advanced to the consolation championship with 2-0 decision victory over Kenny Poland of Muskingum.  McIntosh fell by an 11-5 decision to Brandon Howes of Ohio Northern in the consolation final.   He ends his first season  as the team leader in victories  with 15 wins and an overall record of 15-14.

Taylor lost his opening match by a major decision to Kevin Nycz of John Carroll by a final score of 14-0.   He advanced to the consolation championship with a medical forfeit win over Bryant Roby of Mount Union.  In the consolation championship,  Taylor fell by a 2-1 decision to Nycz. He ends the season with an overall record of  13-16.
