Women’s Lacrosse Earns Victory Against Muskingum

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team defeated Muskingum University in an Ohio Athletic Conference by final score of 16-6.

The Yellow Jackets (2-10, 2-10 OAC) were led by senior midfielder Maddie Ray (Cuyahoga Falls/Richfield Revere) with five goals, followed by freshman midfielder Deanna Loukas (Tuckahoe, New York/Eastchester) with four goals, sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Hradek (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls) with three goals, and freshman attacker Lexy Conway (Wooster) with two goals

Muskingum (1-9, 1-9 OAC) was led by Paige Hannum with three goals and Carly Spitz with two goals. 

BW took advantage of their opportunities early when Ray scored just two minutes into the first half, followed up by a goal from freshman defender/attacker Avri DeBevoise (Avon Lake/Avon Lake) four minutes later. At 18:41 Muskingum scored their first goal of the half by Hannum, which was responded with a goal from Loukas. The Fighting Muskies found their second goal at the 13:12 coming by the way of Sara Woods but was immediately followed with another Yellow Jackets goal from Ray at the 12:35 mark. The last 12 minutes of the half consisted of a goal each from RayLoukas, and Conway, ending the half with a 7-2 lead.  

The Yellow Jackets came out even stronger in the second half when Conway hit the back of the net 50 seconds in. BW continued on a 5-0 scoring streak with two goals from Hradek and a goal each from Ray and sophomore midfielder Sophia Leuma (Bloomington, Minnesota/Thomas Jefferson). Muskingum responded with a 2-0 run with a goal each coming from Spitz and Hannum. BW responded with another streak of 3-0 with two goals from Loukas and one from Hradek. Their streak was ended when Muskingum's Hunnam scored at 13:05, and BW followed up with their last goal of the match from Ray. Muskingum scored again at 3:14 to wrap up the half with a final score of 16-6. 

In the net for BW, senior All-OAC goalkeeper Ashleigh Hildreth (North Tonawanda, New York/Sweet Home) allowed six goals and had eight saves out of a total 14 shots on goal from Muskingum. 

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Wednesday, April 14 when they host an OAC match against Heidelberg University on the Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium at 7 p.m.
