Women’s Lacrosse Drops Seniors’ Day Game to Capital

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team dropped their Seniors' Day and final Ohio Athletic Conference matchup to Capital University by a final score of 16-8 inside George Finnie Stadium on Tressel Field. 

BW (2-12, 2-12 OAC), who ends its season, was led by senior midfielder Maddie Ray (Cuyahoga Falls/Richfield Revere), junior midfielder Sid Chamberlain (Wooster), and freshman midfielder Deanna Loukas (Tuckahoe, N.Y./Eastchester) who scored two goals each. Ray added an assist. 

Capital (11-2, 11-2 OAC) was led by Academic All-OAC senior attacker Brianna Rampi who scored four goals and tallied one assist. Senior midfielder Brooke Delara, junior midfielder Luci Kanowsky, and sophomore midfielder Dylan Smith who each scored three goals. Delara added three assists and Kaowsky tallied one assist. 

Prior to the start of the game, BW honored the team's five seniors All-OAC goalkeeper Ashleigh Hildreth(North Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home), attacker Alexis O'Neill (Westlake), defender Cassidy Prather (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan Academy), midfielder Maddie Ray, and two-time Academic All-OAC defender Christina Roskoph (Strongsville). 

When the game got underway, the Crusaders jumped out to an early lead with a 3-0 run that was capped off by Rampi with 13:07 remaining. The Yellow Jackets trimmed into the lead responding with a 2-0 run of their own when freshman attacker Sophia Caito (Solon) scored a man-up goal. The Capital attack pulled away again with another 3-0 run when Delara hit the back of the cage with 17:39 remaining. BW was able to respond and take the lead going on 5-0 run that put them 7-6. Ray and Loukas each scored two goals on the run. The Crusaders finished out the scoring in the half to tie things at 7-7 when Smith hit the back of the net.  

Capital started the half on a 2-0 run to give them a two-goal advantage when Kanowsky rifled one into the back of the cage. The Yellow Jackets trimmed the lead Crusaders lead down to one when Chamberlain ripped one past the keeper on a free-position shot. Capital controlled the game the rest of the way closing on 7-0 run with Delara scoring with 14 seconds left in the game to give the Crusaders a 16-8 victory. 

In the cage, Hildreth made 18 saves on the 34 shots she faced.
