Munro's Game-High Leads To BW Victory Against Buffalo State in BW Invitational Finale

BEREA, Ohio --  Junior forward Alissa Munro (Mansfield/Lexington) scored a game-high 22 points as the Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team defeated Buffalo State (N.Y.) University, 83-66, in the final game of the 2014 BW Invitational Tournament in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

In addition to Munro for BW (2-1), senior guard Shari Mangas (Leipsic), junior guard Janaya Feaster (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) and sophomore guard Mackenzie Colombo (Strasburg) and all contributed eight points.  Sophomore forward Clara Lemmon (Louisville) grabbed a career-high eight rebounds. Buffalo State (2-2) was led by Hillary Kollar and Niasha Houpe each had 13 points. Britnee Perry grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.

In the first half, the two teams battled back and forth with the game being tied on five separate occasions with the last coming at 22-22 on three-pointer by Hillary Kollar at the 7:12 mark. The Yellow Jackets would outscore the Bengals 15-6 down the stretch and led by as many as 11 points on a fast-break layup by Colombo with 44 seconds remaining in the opening period. BW led 37-28 at the intermission.

In the second half, the Yellow Jackets pushed the lead to as many as 25 points at 61-36 on a pair of free throws by junior guard Allyson Helleis (Rocky River) at the 11:16 mark. Buffalo State responded with a 25-11 run to cut the lead down to just 11 points at 72-61 on triple from Kollar at 4:09. BW would close out the game on an 11-5 run.

The All-Tournament Team was comprised of Most Valuable Player Lauren Hill of Mount St. Joseph along with Alissa Munro and senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference guard Audrey Smolik (Strongsville) of Baldwin Wallace, Hayley Holenka of Bethany (W. Va.), Britnee Perry of Buffalo State and Tara Dennis of Mount St. Joseph.
