Spencer Wins 300th Game at BW, Softball Sweeps Wilmington

BEREA, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University Softball Head Coach Tom Spencer won his 300th game at the University as the Yellow Jackets swept an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader over Wilmington College on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex.

Spencer, who is in his 15th season at BW and his 21st overall season, now has a school-record of 300-266-1, an OAC mark of 117-138-1 and a career record of 432-396-1.  He and his staff were named the OAC Coaching Staff of the Year in 2001 and 2011.

The Yellow Jackets (23-3, 7-1 OAC), who swept Wilmington (14-8, 2-6 OAC) for the first time since 2015 season, took the opener by a final score of 1-0 and the finale by a score of 5-3.

In game one, BW scored one on two hits as it plated its lone run in the fifth inning.   The Quakers were held scoreless and hitless.

The Yellow Jacket offense was led by Matousek as she went 1-for-2 with a double and RBI.  Junior center fielder Macy Leach (Westerville/Central) had the other base knock.  Junior Academic All-OAC second baseman Alex Kozich (Avon) recorded the RBI.

In the circle, freshman right hander Nikki Camarati (Brunswick/Holy Name) recorded her first collegiate no-hitter and her fifth shutout of the season.   Camarati struck out nine batters and allowed just two bases runners all day via a walk.

In game two, BW scored five runs on eight hits as it plated three runs in the second and two in the third.   Wilmington scored three runs on eight hits as it pushed two runs across the plate in the fourth and one in the sixth.

The Yellow Jacket offense was led by senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC right fielder Alexis Boledovic (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) as she went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs.   Senior left fielder Abbie Thompson (Madison) was 2-for-3 with a run scored.   Kozich, Leach and freshman third baseman Kami Helm (Uniontown/Green) each provided a base knock.  Kozich was 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs.  Leach went 1-for-1 with two runs scored and two walks.   Helm was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

In the circle, Camarati got the victory as she allowed two unearned runs on six hits with four strikes out and one walk in 4.2 innings. Sophomore All-OAC left hander Abby Cosart (Lima/Bath) pitched the final 2.1 innings for her first save of the season as she allowed one run on two hits with two strikeouts and two walks.  

Camarati, who recorded her 100th strikeout of the season on her second of the game, won her 13th straight game and improved to 14-1.  She leads the OAC in victories (14), strikeouts (102) and earned run average with 1.34.

BW closes out its four-game homestand on Sunday, April 7 with a non-conference doubleheader against Adrian (Mich.) College at 1 p.m.
