Men’s Tennis Earns OAC Win on Seniors’ Day vs. Capital

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis won its 11th straight match and remained undefeated in Ohio Athletic Conference play as it won a Senior's and Parents' Day match against Capital University on the Pop Collins Tennis Courts.

BW (22-1, 7-0 OAC) won two of three double matches against Capital (9-11, 4-2 OAC). The tandem of senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC standout Peter Harris(Akron/Revere) and Doug Ganim (Westerville/Olentangy Orange) earned the victory at first doubles by a score of 8-4 to improve to 22-4 at first singles and 87-22 in their career as partners.   The duo of senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC player Kyle Patterson (Wooster/Triway), who is this week's OAC Player-of-the-Week, and freshman Dominic Polifrone (Hudson) won at second doubles by a score of 8-4 and are now 21-5 on the season.  

In singles action, the Yellow Jackets won all six matches to secure the win. Harris earned the victory at first singles by scores of 6-1 and 6-1 to improve to 26-3 on the season and 90-17 in his career. Ganim won at second singles by scores of 6-3 and 6-3 and is now 22-2 on the year and 83-17 in his career.  Patterson upped his record to 26-1 this season and is third all-time in BW history with a record of 91-17 after winning his match at third singles by scores of 6-4 and 6-0. Polifrone captured fourth singles by scores of 6-1 and 6-0 and improved to 23-1 in his first season. Junior Nathan Katz (Upper Arlington/Bexley) took fifth singles by scores of 6-3 and 7-5 to stay perfect on the year with a record of 24-0.  Junior Jake Liebler (Medina) earned the win at sixth singles by scores of 6-2 and 6-2 and improved to 16-4 this season.

BW is back in action on Sunday, April 24 when it travels to Pepper Pike for a rescheduled OAC match against cross-town rival John Carroll University on the Ursuline College Tennis Courts at 1 p.m. The Yellow Jackets then travel to Cleveland on Tuesday, April 26 for a non-conference match against NCAA Division I Cleveland State University inside the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion at 7 p.m.   BW closes out the regular season on Saturday, April 30 when it travels to Cleveland for a non-conference match against cross-town rival and sixth-nationally ranked Case Western Reserve University on the Carlton Courts at 9 a.m.

The 2016 OAC Tournament is scheduled to begin with quarterfinal matches on Wednesday, May 4 on the campus of the highest seeds at 3:30 p.m.   The OAC Tournament semifinal and championship matches will be played on Friday, May 6 and Saturday, May 7 at the Linder Tennis Family Center in Mason.
