FREDONIA, N.Y.– The Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving team finished seventh out of nine teams at the three-day Blue Devil Invitational at the Fredonia (N.Y.) State inside the Steele Hall Natatorium.
BW was led by All-Ohio Athletic Conference junior freestyler Jacob Burk (Bowling Green) and All-OAC swimmer Tyler Thompson (Broadview Heights / Brecksville-Broadview Hts).
Burk finished fourth in the 400-yard individual medley in a season-best time of 4:23.01 and he added a fifth place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 17:21.50. Burk also finished ninth in the 500-yard freestyle with a season-best wall touch at the 4:56.77 mark.
Thompson earned a second place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke in a season-best time of 57.45 in the finals. Thompson also added two more season-best times in the 200-yard individual medley with a wall touch at the 2:01.26 mark and in an eleventh place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:17.41.
Freshman swimmers Alexander Morrow (Winchester, Va.) and Kevin Hartenstein (Hermitage, Pa. / Hickory) and senior swimmer Nathan Onchuck (Darien, Ill. / Hinsdale South) also placed in the finals. Morrow finished ninth in the 200-yard backstroke in a career-best time of 2:02.08, Hartenstein finished 14th in the 1650-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 18:39.32, and Onchuck finished fifteenth in the 50-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 22.89.
On the diving board Cameron O'Brien (Toledo / Northview) finished seventh in the three-meter dive with a career-best score of 282.70 and ninth in the one-meter dive with a career-best score of 299.55.
BW returns to action on January 3 when they travel to Sarasota, Florida for a tri-meet against Gardner-Webb (N.C.) University and Kenyon University inside the Lido Beach Pool at 9 a.m.
