BEREA, Ohio - The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team defeated Waynesburg (Pa.) 2-1, Wednesday night on Tressel Field at the George Finnie Stadium.
Waynesburg (3-4-2) scored the first points of the match at the 19:34 mark. Junior forward Victor Browne kicked his third goal of the season to give WU a 1-0 lead and would remain that way for the first 45 minutes of the match. Senior forward Cody Lemke was credited on the assist. Freshman goalkeeper Ryan Asbury (Cincinnati/Turpin) defended two shots between the pipes. BW (2-7) attempted eight shots near the net and had five shots on goal to WU's three.
In the second half, Baldwin Wallace tied the game at one at the 72:29 mark. Senior defender Trey Arney (Coshocton) knocked in a header off of a rebound to give him his first goal of the season. BW broke the 1-1 tie at the 87:52 mark as senior forward Cody Smith (Brunswick) kicked his second goal of the season to top Waynesburg (Pa.), 2-1. BW outshot WU 20-12 and shots on goal favored Baldwin Wallace, 12-6. Asbury had five saves in the game and earned his second win of the year.
The Yellow Jackets will remain at home for a twin bill this Saturday, September 27, 2014 as it will host Defiance University on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium. Kickoff will take place at 3:30 p.m. BW women will begin the afternoon for a 1 p.m. kickoff against Defiance.
