No. 11 Men’s Soccer Team Shuts Out Mount St. Joseph

BEREA, OHIO -- The No. 11-ranked Baldwin-Wallace College men's soccer team (NSCAA Division III Coaches poll) shutout the College of Mount St. Joseph, 6-0, tonight (Tuesday, September 27, 2011) in a non-conference match on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium.  This was the second game of a men's and women's soccer doubleheader.  In the first game, the B-W women shutout St. Vincent (Pa.) College by a final score of 3-0.

 With the victory, the Yellow Jackets, who are also ranked third in the Great Lakes Region of Division III, won their ninth straight match and improved to 9-1 on the season.   The loss drops Mount St. Joseph to 3-6 overall.

 In the first half, B-W scored a season-high six goals in a half and for a game. The Yellow Jackets got two goals from each junior midfielder Pat Brennan (Akron/Walsh Jesuit) and freshmen Trey Arney (Coshocton) and Mike Womack (Mentor), who each recorded their first career scores.

 B-W opened the scoring (1-0) just 2:13 into the match when Arney scored his first career goal.  The Yellow Jackets added to their lead (2-0) when Brennan took the feed from senior three-time All-OAC forward Carlin Vandendriessche (Medina) at the 14:00 minute mark.

 B-W continued the offensive attack (3-0) when Arney scored his second goal of the half off the cross from junior midfielder Kirk Graf (Ashland) at 19:12. The Yellow Jackets scored his second goal as he took the pass from senior midfielder Andrew Thompson (Huron) at the 28:05 mark.  The Yellow Jackets continued the offensive onslaught (5-0) when Womack his first career goal at the 35:37 mark. B-W closed out the first half scoring (6-0) when Womack scored his second goal off the first assist of the season for defender Sean Maloney (North Versailles, Pa./East Allegheny) with less than two minutes left in the opening stanza.

 In the second half, both teams did not find the back of the net.

 In net for the Yellow Jackets, junior Tyler Beaton (Bemus Point, N.Y./Maple Grove) started his first game of the season and recorded three saves and his first win.

 B-W outshot Mount St. Joseph, 23-9, but the two teams tied, 7-7, in corners kicks.

 The Yellow Jackets are back in action this Saturday, October 1 when they play host to the Pioneers of Marietta College in the second game of a men's and women's Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader at 3:30 p.m. are The women kickoff at 1:00 p.m.

 On Saturday, October 22, the Yellow Jacket men's and women's soccer teams will host Ohio Athletic Conference foe Wilmington College in a doubleheader that will be televised by SportsTime Ohio (STO).  This is the fourth straight year that B-W has televised a soccer doubleheader and will put a perfect 6-0 record on the line.
