KENT, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University wrapped up the exhibition portion on their schedule against NCAA Division I opponents. Kent State came out on top by a final score of 76-55 inside the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center.
BW Leaders
- Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC guard Anthony Mazzeo (North Canton/Massillon Jackson) led the way with 16 points and three assists
- Freshman guard Ray Ellington (Westlake) knocked down four threes on his way to 14 points. He also grabbed four boards.
- Sophomore forward Zoltan Nagy (Lakewood/St. Edward) led the rebounding with eight.
- The three point shooting was on point for the offense as they shot over 40% beyond the arc.
- BW out rebounded Kent State 35-33
Kent State Leaders (2-0)
- Sincere Carry led the scoring with 31 points, seven assists and six steals.
- Miryne Thomas added 11 points, six rebounds and three steals.
- The Kent State defense forced 21 turnovers and had 16 steals.
First Half (Kent State, 41-29)
- The first two minutes if the half featured plenty of defense as both were held scoreless.
- Carry got the scoring started with a layup.
- BW got a quick response on the other end with a Mazzeo three off a sophomore forward Nagy feed.
- Right before the first media timeout, the Yellow Jacket defense forced a Golden Flash timeout after trapping them in the corner.
- The Yellow Jackets and the Golden Flashes continued to battle as the teams traded shots and the lead.
- A Kent State 9-0 lead gave them a seven-point lead with 9:36 left in the half.
- BW continued to battle and cut down the Golden Flashes lead.
- A late Kent State 10-3 run gave them a 12-point leading into the half.
- The Yellow Jackets offense rained down threes as eight of their nine makes came from beyond the arc.
- Mazzeo was the leading scorer for BW with 11 points at the half. He also added three assists.
- Freshman guard Ellington knocked down two threes and had the lone block of the half for the Yellow Jackets.
- Carry led the way for the Golden Flashes with 18 points and five assists.
Second Half (Kent State, 76-55)
- Mazzeo started out the half hot getting the first five points for BW.
- The Yellow Jackets kept things close through the first eight points.
- An 8-0 tun extended the Kent State to 20 with 14:09 remaining in the half.
- The Yellow Jackets continued to fight back and cut the lead down to 15 off an Ellington three.
- The Golden Flashes regained a 19 point lead before the half ended.
- Ellington led the way for the Yellow Jackets with eight second half points.
- Carry added another 13 points in the half to lead Kent State.
BW is back in action on Saturday, November 12 when it hosts a non-conference game against Hiram College to open the regular season at 6:00 p.m. in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.
