Men’s Basketball Begins 2022-23 Season with an Exhibition Game at NCAA Division I Cleveland State

CLEVELAND– The Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team hit the court for the first time in 2022-23 with an exhibition game against NCAA Division I Cleveland State University at the Wolstein Center. The Yellow Jackets fell 74-52.

BW Leaders

  • Senior forward Jackson Simmons (Wadsworth) led the squad in points and rebounds. He posted 15 points and six boards on 6-12 from the field.
  • Sophomore forward Ashton Price (Bay Village/Bay) added 10 points and four rebounds while going 5-6 from the free throw line.
  • The Yellow Jacket defense forced 16 turnovers.
  • The offense shot 30% 

Cleveland State Leaders

  • Tristan Enaruna led the way with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
  • Jason Drake posted 11 points off the bench,
  • The Vikings grabbed 52 rebounds and blocked 10 shots. 

First Half (CSU, 35-23)

  • Simmons scored the first five points off the games with a layup and a three off an assist from junior forward Rob Watson III (Sagamore Hills/Nordonia)
  • A 24-2 run for the Vikings got them a 24-7 lead with 10 minutes left in the half.
  • Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC guard Jake Snyder (Stow/Archbishop Hoban) knocked down a corner three off a senior forward Lian Levesque (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark)feed to end the CSU run.
  • A 10-0 BW run going into the half cut the CSU lead down to 35-23.
  • Snyder ended the half scoring or assisting on eight of the last 10 points.
  • Snyder also led the half for the Yellow Jackets posting eight points on 3-5 from the field. He was tied for second on the team with four boards.
  • Simmons posted five points and six boards.
  • BW held the Vikings to 40% shooting in the half and forced five turnovers.
  • For CSU, Tristan Enaruna led with nine points and nine rebounds.
  • Tae Williams posted eight points in the half for the Vikings.

Second Half (CSU, 74-52)

  • The second half started off with the teams trading buckets until CSU went on a 8-0 run.
  • The Yellow Jackets responded with a 5-0 run of their own to cut into the Viking lead.
  • Simmons came out of the gate hot as he scored on eight of BW's first 16 points in the half.
  • The Yellow Jackets battles back to get the CSU lead down to 13.
  • The Vikings ended the game on a 16-7 run to take home a 74-52 victory.
  • Simmons led the half with 10 points.
  • Price added seven second half points.
  • Parker and Jason Drake both posted eight points in the half.
  • CSU outrebounded BW 28-13 in the half.
  • The Yellow Jackets defense forced 11 turnovers in the half.

BW is back on the court next Thursday, November 10 when it travels to Kent for their second and final exhibition game against Kent State University. Tipoff is at 5:00 p.m. in the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center.
